Set Times for Interval Training

I’m starting up an interval training program along with some other toning workouts. What is a good set time for interval training on a bike or elliptical?

30 seconds sprint, 10 second slow.

not sure what your trying to accomplish as your goals directly relate to interval time you should be using…

the 30 second sprint and 10 second rest interval specified before should not be done…

on an elliptical machine it would be alot easier to perform if he were doing free-running I would say 10 second sprint, 15 second rest

I can only say with regard to running and not ellipitical; but will say with regard to running;

will say a 30 second sprint should be followed by a at least a 1:30 or 2:00 minute rest; if you can do more than this; more power to you

What I did today was 10 mph one minute, 4 mph one minute, incline=3, for a total of 20 minutes. The treadmill I use kinda sucks because it doesn’t go any faster and you can’t preset the intervals so that they last for different lengths (which kills the purpose of intervals)

searay have fun with this by the way. ; )

Dr. Clay wrote an article recently where he recommended 30 seconds hard, 1 minute slow, for 12 cycles, which comes out to 20 minutes total. I’ve been using that and like it so far.
