Good Cardio?

So right now what I am doing is for 10 mins, not including warm up and cool down, every thirty seconds I do a 5-6 second sprint on the elliptical.

I can do this for a very long time because I am in really good shape I just want to build up more muscle size and tone.

Is this good, or should I add some more time to cardio?

Increase the work to rest ratio. Keep the 30 second interval but increase the work cycle to 20 seconds. I bet you can’t keep that up for 10 minutes.

So go with 30, 20, 30?

Well, if you’re going for size, you need a caloric surplus, and cardio typically works against that, so you may want to rethink the entire idea of doing cardio at all.

I’ve read some authors recommend doing intervals during mass phases to ensure the gains are predominantly LBM. Some guidelines are a work/rest ratio of 1:3 (30 sec sprint followed by 90 sec walk).

And… I would advise running instead of using the elliptical machine. It’s easier to accelerate and decelerate.
