2 on one side 5 on the other, silly.

Quote of the year.
I’m still laughing.
So, about bodybuilding…
Waitaminnit.
You mean…lifting heavy shit almost every day for years at a time will make you strong and look good nekkid?
NO. WAY.

He came to my highschool competition, but not yours? ![]()

And I’m laughing at the fact that so many people thought he meant 7 plates per side.
For all you people who have such a hard time with reading comprehension, go back and read his original post; he said “around 7 plates”, as in an estimation of weight. This doesn’t necessarily mean he was talking about 7 plates exactly, asymmetrically placed about the bar.
Too many people here look for shit to just complain and run their mouth about all the time.

…and too many more people are just extremely gullible and/or willing to accept anything someone else writes. I completely ignored that guy’s post until this became a debate.
Now that all attention has shifted from the main fucking topic to what some newbie claims his best friend can lift, let’s all take a look at how retarded you would have to be in the first place to believe MOST beginners when it comes to what they claim they can lift (let alone what they claim someone they know can lift). Hell, if he’s in highschool, the chances of exaggeration increase 10 fold.
No one who has been lifting for a while would even make a statement of “around 7 plates” for a bench press followed by “around 4 plates” that he claims he can lift himself.
That means he is claiming he can lift 2 45’s on each side of a bar. It would have taken any lifter beyond newbie status ZERO seconds to realize that you can’t claim someone is lifting “around” an odd number of plates on that lift.
What makes it a LIE is his own claim of what he can lift…the “around 4 plates”…which is obviously 4 plates total. That means his “friend” is lifting 7 plates total.
Where the living fuck does that extra plate get put?
Quit taking up for people that are clearly being ridiculous and just posting to see their name on the screen. It does NOT make you a better person.

Well, lets say the guy benched 320.
That would be three plates on each side, plus a 25 on each side.
So maybe he figured "I can count the 6 plates, plus the two 25s as being “about one plate”… thus making a total of “About 7 plates”
?
Thats what I figured anyway.

Wow, as easily worked up as ever. But, hey, what would a good Professor X post be without at least one reference to “newbies” and/or “retards”, a rhetorical question or two and at least one “fuck” thrown in for good measure? You did leave out your usual “I have to truly question…” or “It truly makes me wonder…”, though.
Just to clarify, I actually agree with you on one point; this thread was getting way off-topic. My comment was actually an attempt to get people to stop worrying so damn much about the semantics of a badly worded post and get things back on track.
At any rate, common sense seems to run at a real premium around here. I will admit the guy’s post was worded very poorly, but for someone to read what he wrote and take it to mean that he actually meant 7 plates per side is flat-out preposterous.
In case you didn’t understand it the last time, I took it to mean that 7 plates was an estimation of weight; in other words, about a 360 lb. bench. Would it have been a lot easier if he just said 360 lb. bench? Of course. Did I say I believe his friend could actually do it? No. So where does that make me “gullible” again?
And where does that extra plate’s worth of weight go? I don’t know, maybe two 10’s and a 2-1/2 each side?
Lastly, I was never attempting to be “a better person” by “taking up for someone”. You honestly think I give a shit what image people have of me on an internet message board, much less that people believe I’m a good or “better person” on here? Well, I’ll help you out: I don’t.

Well, that would actually be around 360 lbs., but your thinking is in the same line as what I was trying to say.
Either way, be careful about using common sense around here. People tend to not like it.

45 x 6 = 270
270 + 50 = 320
Unless we’re counting the weight of the bar?

My understanding is that they CAN climb stairs, but only 3 flights of 8-12 steps.

Well, if you took a plate and stretched it until it was seven feet long you’d end up with a bar. A bar is just a very thick plate with a very small diameter.

I was leg pressing today and I had most of the plates. Some new kid was in and benched 5 bars.

Hey, if you ever get chased by a bodybuilder, don’t fret. Just find a set of stairs and climb up. These guys can’t get past 3 steps cause that’s all it takes to get on stage. A while back, there was a contest, and the stage had five steps…Yo man, they had to use the forklift to get all of them on top! Now they always make sure to ask before renting a venue.
