And I of all people, who work in nutrition with education in nutrition and exercise science - why the heck would I be in someone’s way or discourage them from reaching new levels of health and fitness or muscularity or athleticism when that is what I learned to do for others? Does that make any sense?
Brick- I definitely think your original statement was misconstrued, but it wasn’t necessarily meant to be a shot at you. It seems like a lot of forums change direction for whatever reason.
What you were originally getting at, if I am correct, is a really good point. I think there are points in your life where your goals may change for whatever reason. It doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not hardcore or as dedicated as you once were. There are varying degrees of success.
However, while I do agree with your original argument, I will also say that from what I have seen Deb post, she doesn’t seem to be seeking validation or attention. For some reason the words confident and playful come to mind.
I could be wrong, but that’s how I perceive it.

You can also indirectly hold people back by pretending as if you current state of physical being isn’t also a result of having once taken this much more seriously than you do now. Someone without that background jumping into this thinking not being serious will still allow similar results will be shit out of luck.
You changed your goals while others in this thread stated clearly that they simply don’t take this seriously…or that getting big somehow means they won’t be able to earn enough money to retire (this was actually stated right here).
Are you blind to this?
That’s a very good post.
Actually I was blind to it, but now that you’ve put it so articulately, and after reflecting on it, I’m now not.

There’s also nothing so e-tough about saying that many men get irritated when someone twists their words constantly. And it’s neither tough or wimpy to tell someone who’s disrespecting you (eg, butting in, not giving room to speak, constantly mincing words, put-downs, digs, etc.), “I have a problem with you!” I’ve done this on a few occasions. Definitely not the safest thing to do, because whether I were to engage in a fight and kick ass or not, I risked physical injury to myself. But I’ve done it.
Dude, either way, no one here is clueless about the fact that sometimes, priorities change as someone gets older or as they gain more responsibility. THAT issue alone is not why this thread is getting so much flack. What is getting to people is that on a site that focuses this much on NOT being average, now we get people acting like they deserve applause for not being so serious anymore.
You don’t deserve applause…because in the context of this website, you are now going against what the rest of us. That is FINE for YOU, but to bring it here like we need to acknowledge it makes no sense.
If I ever quit lifting seriously, I will simply not log in here so much to discuss the aspects of serious weight lifting. What I will not do is create a whole thread about how I now don’t train so often or how I am now into bike riding or some shit.
To make real progress, you can NOT approach things like you have stated in this thread.
You are a guy who claims he weighed over 240lbs of solid weight once so your body is NOT the same at all as the people reading this who never applied themselves. Your body still has muscle memory and the ability to adapt conditioning quicker than those who never got there.
Therefore, this thread serves little purpose other than to blatantly state you don’t care as much about this anymore.
This is another very good post, and if people communicated with me in this intelligent manner on a regular basis on here, I wouldn’t be so hot to fly off the handle [which I really shouldn’t do, but have done because of my excitable nature (I’m working on this.)].
You wrote: “Therefore, this thread serves little purpose other than to blatantly state you don’t care as much about this anymore.”
The thing is that I LOVE working out. And at this point, it’s in my blood. So I had to take on a different “brand” of seriousness (eg, "How can I continue to fit this in my life?)
I’m not trying to take away from the brand of the site. But the fact is, MANY people on here are people who simply love talking shop on nutrition and bodybuilding and whatever else (which is really the aim of a forum - talking shop and helping a site to get traffic and development of content) but aren’t going or aren’t willing to go to the extremes that hardcore BBers do.
I’m not REQUESTING a new forum be made. I simply suggested it. As I said, I will post in the Nutr and Conditioning and T Replacement threads and will only comment in the BB section if what I have to say is useful or important or relevant to BB.

Because you can’t comprehend what is written it is retarded? Great approach dude.
There really is nothing wrong with being average,
Enjoy, it’s all yours.
Your post defines being above average as doing everything within you power to reach your personal potential and that being average is putting no effort into yourself. If that’s not what you were trying to get at, rewrite what you meant clearly.
HOLY SHIT, you addressed me directly. WOW. Next time you want to call me or what I said retarded, have the balls to do it directly please.
Dude, listen:
You are not defined by the job you hold, the car you drive, the home you live in or the friends you have.
I had a buddy of mine die of testicular cancer this summer. His suffering taught us all a lot about life, love and being happy. I’ve never before seen someone in so much pain, and he showed me what joy really is. He was 24 years old. His son will be too young to remember his father, but that is okay, he was just average right?
To you, he would be an average person, because he wasn’t rich and didn’t work in a fancy pants job, nor did he have an advanced degree. To me, he was anything but average.
I tell ya what, you can call me a retard for my perspective all you want. You can define average however you please. I’m not going to try and convince you to believe something you don’t want to.
I’m just pretty fucking happy I see the world the way I do, and so are quite a few people around me.
I called your opinion of what constitutes “average” as retarded. Not you personally. Also calling out someone over the internet doesn’t take balls, I replied to Brick’s post since I agreed with him.
How average someone is in their life is in no way shape or form a measure of the value of their life. Average is a statistical thing. Your friend was not a loser for working an average job or living an average life. His life was worth just as much as someone who is considered above average. There is nothing “okay” about a father with a small child dying.
Average =/= Loser
Your friend was average (from what I get from what you wrote) but NOT a loser. Those two words do not mean the same thing which is one of my points.

Okay now this is back on topic, the sacrifice of your coronary arteries vs the reward of pure fucking awesomeness.
I’ve debated with myself the pros and cons of being ‘hardcore’ vs. “maintaining” and I’ve come to the conclusion that “maintaining” is giving up (for me at least). This is no offense to the OP. I realized long ago that if I wanted to make any real progress in the gym, I had to go ‘balls-to-the-wall’ in MY MIND. Now after being back for 2 years, I realize it isn’t really balls-to-the-wall. I spend maybe 6 hours a week cooking and 5 hours lifting. Not hard at all.
The only difference between being hardcore and maintaining, for me, is having a stronger mentality and making every meal and every rep count. I still spend the same amount of time in the gym. From my personal experience (not what I perceive in others, it’s not worth it to ‘maintain’. Stay home.
Note that my use of maintain is to describe average gym-goers definition of the word. Not a well-trained athlete maintaining.
Pimp WTF is that and why am I not eating it now?

You never fucked with a baconator?
Clear out your schedule and get to a Wendy’s.
Its tough. JESUS,Its tough. The only time I have to myself is a 2 hour crack in the early morning before going to work for 8 hours or going to school and finish up some projects. I only work during the weekends, not by choice either. Its retarded that my classes had to spread out the way it does. In a perfect world,I would be working for 5 days and have 4 classes for 2 days. Its tough trying to grow when your only giving 20 hours a week to work and then have that money burn away on gas and food and a gf. Im not complaining though,I want to get big and I realized that I have to sacrifice somethings. No more steak night with the guys,no more pool,no more titty bars,no more drinking. Like I said its tough but the greatest feeling in the world is have girls do a double take.
I used to like the Wendy’s double stack until BK came out with the $1 double cheeseburger. It blows the tiny double stack away. Both in size and taste. I swear the double stack shrinks daily.
