I don’t care if you trained with Michael the fucking archangel, you still make stupid posts everywhere you go.

why do we do these threads every four months on the regular? haven’t we already said everything we care to say on the topic?

This thread was created to discuss the recent idea on the interwebz that Silva wants to box RJJ post-UFC contract. Then it turned into a fuckfest of ‘boxer v. mma guy’ quips.

You should have known better,T. Let this be a lesson to you.
Well, at least it was a learning experience.

I wish I could have done all of those things, but I fail to see what this has to do with the topic at hand.

just stating my credentials, to talk about the subject at hand

Please tell me you are being sarcastic…seriously, are you??
hey he said that the people chiming in never boxed or hit any one

My comment was a somewhat cryptic jab (albeit with love) at Vegita. A continuation of another post exchange we had.

I responded to your post, other wise I wouldn’t have posted my history. no harm

Fuck yourself douchebag. I’ve seen your sheer genius at work in the politics forum. Your reading comprehension sucks dick- good to see it carries over to other forums like this one.

Tim is a headcase right now. He’s always just been a big 'ol striker with some other skills. That Mercer fight was a sham. It was supposed to be just a boxing match, but they couldn’t get it sanctioned and it became an MMA match. I think Tim just needed the money.
No, the match was always going to be MMA. They planned the switch so Tim could test his boxing skills against a tough but long past prime boxer and if things went badly he could fall back on his MMA.

Back to serious discussion. How about Chad Dawson v Anderson Silva standup where kicks and knee strikes are allowed but it’s a boxing clinch?

Or Paul Williams at 154 v Silva at 185 in boxing?

Or Brock Lesnar v Shaq?

Or the winner of Carano/Cyborg v Jose Canseco MMA.

How many years are we setting back organized fighting? haha

The fact that people discuss those fights, even jokingly, shows how far MMA has to go to be accepted like boxing.

MMA has grown bigger and better than boxing ever will be. This thread has gone way beyond moot. Silva, a well established MMA fighter with 2 professional boxing matches somehow gets a shot to box a former/current world title holder in multiple weight classes in boxing? Come on guys, all this is hypothetical because RJJ vs Silva has as much of a chance of happening as Fedor joining the UFC walking out to his fights wearing an affliction t-shirt.

Boxing is in kind of a low spot right now. But if we had an era like the mid-80s and early 90s where there were several big name, incredible fighters (Hagler, Leonard, Duran, Tyson, Holyfield, etc.) boxing would be right back where it was.

The sport has always run in cycles… but the business end is very fucked up right now. Boxing dying is a product of promoters sucking too many associations- not because of MMA. Believe it or not, there’s actually room in the world for more than one sport.

Have you watched Silva Bob and weave out of the way of punches, I think silva would beat Roy Jones Jr, If Roy would win i see it by Judges Cards, not by KO or anything like that.

First post:(been lurking since late 2007)

I haven’t seen this link posted. RJJ talks mma/boxing at ufc 101.

True, but its gonna take a lot to sway fans from MMA back to boxing. I love boxing and I love MMA. IMO, MMA is more fun to watch. Although a lot of MMA fans hate the ground game. They’d rather watch two fighters in a slug-fest. Which worked very well in boxing because the only weapons used are fists. Every fight was a slug-fest. To that end, boxing can trump MMA. However, its going to take a beast like Tyson with the personality of (dare I say) Nassem Hammed to get boxing back on its feet. I still wanna punch Hammed in the face myself.

Boxing isn’t going anywhere. MMA can’t displace it, people will always box. As long as SOMEONE speaks Spanish, there will always be boxing.

But, time will tell.

agree boxing, has been around since the ancient greeks. only in about the last 125 years has it become real popular.

I like you sevenmoist. The reasons being your avatar and you being from Florida.

I’m surprised that no one mentioned how Ray Mercer destroyed Tim Silvia in an MMA match.

I think boxers transition well into MMA. If your striking is good enough, you may not need any groundwork at all ie…A.Silva is a Big Nog BJJ BB yet you hardly ever see him have to use it.
Not really a good example. He got lucky there. Kimbo (who’s not good) beat him easily with a crappy guillotine. Manhoef is a better example, although he’s kickboxer – he’s ferocious standing but is worthless on his back.

Sliva doesn’t have to use his BJJ much because he’s got great takedown defense. Just like the Iceman.

On topic: RJJ would whip Silva in boxing. In any other ruleset, RJJ’s roadkill.

Ive thoght the same thing, but who knows if silvas still going to be in the ufc when jones is ready?
