Road to Strongman
KO421 wrote:
Changed it up this week didnt continue with my DL routine I will get back to it next week, I think I am coming down with a cold/sore throat the volume would have not worked very well!

I contest I am thinking of doing in June has a 450lb axle DL for reps (18")
so I decided to test where im at in this.

Rack pulls with axle about 18 1/2-18 3/4" off ground bottom positon in pins

190x5
280x3
370x1
440x1
Switched to my bent ass olympic bar as I could tell I was going to bend my cheap homemade axle.
455x1
505x1(PR!)
525x1(big PR)
Last time I did rack pulls i worked up to a 500lb pull from 3 pins up so this was nice probaly could get 600+ at the 3rd pin now I think.

Finally found a event that is good to be short for. At 5’6 1/2" 18" is right at my knees, lol.

1 arm DB Row
85x5
100x5
100x5

Looks like a short workout but it somehow took almost 1 1/2 hours
Ha thats no shit on the DLing and even to an extent cleaning things etc, but it levels out when you go to load kegs stones etc on platforms

Nice work bro

Been sick all week, tried to workout yesterday and do some push presses, felt horrible so i stoped. Looking back I should have done some light DB presses or something, oh well I seem to be getting better.

The good news I weighed in at 196 this morning?

-Did some light rev hypers, millitaries, snatch-grip deads etc to warmup
-Did like 8 or so sets of either 3 or 2 reps with just 75 lbs on power jerks to work my form
-3x3x75 Front squats for speed and technique work
-3 sets of abs
-1 more set of rev hypers

Just some light work. Nothing to write home to Mother about. Happy Easter, everyone.

-2x12x100lbs Standing Strict Press (a couple warmup sets beforehand; I tried a couple jerks but realized that it would be a bad idea to to PJs)
-2x12x40lb 1-arm Barbell presses (to be replaced with DB presses next week)
-2x12x40lb BB Front Raises
-2x12x25lb Bent Laterals w/ plate
-1x12x25lb, 1x10 Laterals w/ plate
-2x12x80, 1x10 Skullcrushers standing (next week when I get into the gym, these will be pushdowns)
-1x12x25lb, 1x10 Situps w/ weight behind head

Today begins the first day of the Jackal’s Gym 8 week basic program. I went a tad heavy on those Strict presses, though. Next week, it’s 2x10x100lbs. Holy volume, Batman. 15 sets isn’t a lot, but 10 for shoulders is more than I am used to. Of course today being Easter means two things a) Jesus is ressurected and b) everything is closed; including my gym, so I worked out at home.

I need some help…I’m 6’5 about 185lbs… i can bench 245lbs, deadlift 415lbs, and squat 220…I’ve always wanted to do strongman or powerlifting but i have no way to get to a gym or have a membership…I have a shitty ass weight bench dumbbells and a homemade squat rack in my garage.

Is there anything I can do at home to train just for strongman???

Go to Ontariostrongman.ca and check out their beginner articles.

I have used tires (free), kegs(deposit $), sandbags (ebay military duffles), PVC pipe for Connans Walks ($5) and rocks/stones. There are many things you can utilize!

It’s plateau busting time, kids ! As you have read above, I now on the 8-week Jackal’s Gym basic routine. I have replaced bench with millitaries and the light bench day with events. It’s basic peroidization, but I have never done any kind of periodization before. Hopefully, this makes a difference.

Also, on events day I am stuck at 160lbs on the log. So essentially, it’s time to stop maxing out and I am gonna attempt to hit 160 for a double and possibly a triple. If I can’t hit the triple, I will do it the following week. Then I will go for 170 and repeat the same method for a little while.

Yes like above says just get heavy stuff and a lot stronger. just keep at it drag things, throw things lift things, build a bas with core lifts and good nutrition at 6’5" 185 you got a LOT of eating to do and training but well do it and have a blast.

I don’t know what your situtation is but training with some good equipment would really help, I slowly saved up and added good equipment to my home gym and it has really helped my training.

You can get a good power rack for about 200 bucks.

I would say to do alot of squating to try to bring your squat up, your other numbers are good. Is your equipment the reason your squat is lagging behind your other lifts? My squat did to untell I had a decent setup to use for squats. You can always do front squats as a safer alternative if you are scared about getting stuck with the weight.

It’s been a rough several weeks.

My shoulder/trap/neck have just not been feeling that great. My ART guy was gone all last week, so I’ve only had 2 teatments. I have been unable to much of anything, no bench or overhead of anykind. I have been doing some bi/tri/and leg stuff.

2 Saturdays ago Beau hit a 605 belt only double below parallel squat. I hit 515 at a below parallel squat, my depth was much better than anything I had done before. I did some other stuff while they did cleans and other stuff.

This saturday we just did deads. We must have done over 100 total reps. Most of it was done snatch grip. I pulled 405 for 8, 455 for 3, 500 for 1, and 545 for 1.

Beau hit 655 and maintained his 100lb advantage over me, fucker.

Then we did a bunch of reps off the platform with a normal mixed grip.

I am happy that with 2 weeks of non training my strength has stayed up pretty good. This was just a horrible time to get hurt, as I’ve been clean for 7 weeks now and am just waiting for the crash.

I may go to the regular dr this week to try and get a referral on this shoulder. It’s starting to get really annoying…

Hope everyone has had some good sessions, and ate some food yesterday.
