My overhead continues to be iffy. We worked on clean and jerk with the 2.5" axel on saturday. I cleaned 245 with ease, something that I’ve struggled with before. After that, it got tricky. I missed 265, then went to a continental clean. Pressed that pretty easy as well.
Then we went to 285, which I was able to clean, but once on my shoulders it felt like 400.

Iffy is right. Making the clean on at 245, but not at 265, then at 285? Weird. Did you have a bigger break between your sets?

Should have been more clear, sorry.
I cleaned the 245. The 265 and 285 were both continentled (sp?) up.
Enjoy my first training session, albeit condesced. That other dude, Junior, that guy is strong. He cleaned and pressed 230 like it was nothing. If he weighs more than 180-190, I’d be suprised. Plus he was racing with 160 per hand on the farmer’s walk like it was nothing whereas I was panting like a dog. [/quote]
I agree with Brett all that seemed EASY
try about 220 in each hand or so next time! atleast for a hold to work on your grip

Nice job you guys, more and more pr’s every week, that’s great.
The past week went pretty good for us. I nailed a quarter squat with 645, by far heavier than what I have done before. My partner got 855, and made it look easy, sometimes I hate him.

Still was a PR on that implement though, so that was good. Also hit 400lb duck walk for 70ft, then 445 for 20ft, both pr’s. Everyone eat big this week!

Damn fine work bro those axle clean for sure have me jealous I tried them first time last week and sucked pond water somethjing I need a LOT of work on
Thanks Phil. I have really been working on my C&J and snatch, prob too much for strongman stuff, but I have just been having fun. My partner also tells me I have a good grip, so I like doing anything in which I can beat him via grip strength.
I love that axel, we use it for everything. If I could get my static strenght to come up, I’d be in decent shape right now.

Keep in mind that this was my first time training the implements. Also, everyone went light. Everyone was either getting back into it or was coming off an injury. Also, I attempted the smallest competition stone, which you didn’t see. I couldn’t lap it and also missed a 190 log clean.

You did a good job man I wasnt trying to criticize you or for lack of effort or anything like that. Just give some encouragement
I just couldn’t get up from the bottom of the 205 attempt. I just dumped it; 195 kinda stalled for a second but I popped out. I really had to drive and I decided not to try any singles. 165x5 on the good mornings was pretty easy whereas the 155 after was harder.
-Seated cable row: 1/4 of the stack for 8, 1/3 of the stack for 8, 1/2 the stack for 8 and 3/4 of the stack for 6 !
-Chinups…3 sets
-Cheat Upright rows: 3x5x135lbs
-Bent crucifix laterals: 2x15
-A couple sets for the guns
-couple for the tris
-4 sets of abs
Went home. Nice and easy today. No loud metal, no grunting…just a decent, relaxed workout done in well under an hour.

deadlifts and back
Ive been trying to go heavy every workout and it hasn’t been working out. I decided I will alternate between deadlifts and push presses on what I go ME each week.

Good workouts bro.
On the above I for damnj sure would NOT ignore ME squating. are you doing an upper and lower ME days or combined?
Also if you can light implement work for speed and technique is great for the dynamic days.
Ok, how often would you guys suggest deviating from the WSB template ? In future, when I get room for implements, I am gonna obv get em. I’d like to on occasion train for a few weeks and incoporate an event each say with some other stuff.

Read this its doing stronman with WSB template its what im basing mine on right now and seems to be working you do Implemewnt work on DE and ME days. Thats what west side is about you fit it to you and your goals and for you me thats implement training.
Im doing this off season and now two more weeks then a week off Im going to do a switch and try a layout much like that of Steve Macdonald on elitfts and have a Lower and Upper ME day, a light aassistance /DE day some where I feel OK for well assiatnce and recovery then a full on events day Ill be using this for the last 5 weeks going up to my first comp and the four or so weeks between each of the four or more this season if its wroking well.
If you havnt might loomk at my last two weeks training including tomorrow. I feel ive finally made some good changes and adaptations that are working for me at least.

I do front squats and good mornings on monday, I am not doing a westside template. I’ve never done one and not to sure hot to structure it but I’ve been looking into it.
I find it dosn’t work to well for me to go ME on the backsquat and deadlift in the same week and I need to focus on my deadlift as much as I can right now for my comp in April so I’ve been doing front squats.
I only have a chance to do events once a week I will probaly be ordering a set of farmers withen the next two weeks though

well I love the idea behind west side and how you can bend twist it etc. its more principles then anything im the first to admit waht I do is VERY bastardized but most ppls are. That said its not the only way to train by far Just ive learned a ton and gained a ton from it.

HELL NO well for years I could do both but that was time I dont consdier as real training not like now looking back as I got more intense and loads got higer its ONE all out low body day and Im frugged pretty much. So I agree no DL and squat ME in same week But dont agree with not back squatting or DLing heavy every week I think a form of DL a week as ACC or speed etc but man even weekly DLing FOR ME it takes a toll also man the back suat it will brinjg that DL up box squating etc, I ave seen no strongman that trains that doesnt have the back sqaut as a main stay.
you might think a rotation like Front squat, DL, back ,sqaut a three week rotation?? Just my opinion.
For instance me was three weeks no DLing and I have a machine DL like a trap bar rack pull from knees in my frist comp 6 weeks away so did it as a second ME im doing FULL DL with the same load 500lbs figure I get good at that full pull Ill smoke the half pull. any way three weeks no DLing did box squats, and front squats gm’s etc and well raised my reps to 500 x 9 attcking the lift by going around it these lifts uce much the same muscles but you can stay fresher by not over working one particular move DL highest of those it just taxing as hell.
I hear you Im in a postion thats good and gettiung better with getting my own implements and place to store and use them though I need a lot more farmers baing one.
