I had a decent couple of past workouts. I hit a 296 push jerk from my back on Thursday, and had a new dead pr of 585 off the floor saturday. We had a group of 4 people and all of us hit a PR, we were yelling and screaming at each other, good shit. Bad news was that we also hit the log at 240 felt ultra heavy to me, so I guess I need more log work.
It’s hard to put everything together at one time, if you let any part of your training slip, your hosed. Part of the enjoyment I suppose.
12" log. It’s really weird, I have hit 260 several times, and on several attempts it’s been easy. I also have locked out 270 with ease then just missing 280. The log is alot of form, seems lately I am just collapsing forward and then pushing away from me rather than straight up. Eh, my overhead press just sucks.
Ok so, nothing confirmed yet, but I might have found a place to learn/train the implements in Toronto, with the guys at Team Barbarian. Of course, I still have to confirm and what-not.
Getting out there will be an adventure, naturally, being that I have no vehicle. Getting back should be all sorts of fun too, probably dead as I will be after training the implements for the first time.
Hopefully things go through as I hope because this is indeed exciting news. I look forward to training with people who know more than me and are stronger.
I know I can’t learn it all in one day, but I’d like to learn as much as I can. I basically want to train the yoke and atlas stones which are events I can’t really train here. I could use the triceps bar to train the log press basically, which someone pointed out to me on Ontario strongman. D’oh, why didn’t I think of that ? Lol.

Are your elbows up when you rack the log prior to going overhead? I have found that low elbows = punching the log forward and that high elbows brings the log more overhead.

How do you use the tricep bar for a log substitute? Is it the tri-bar with parallel handles about 8" apart?
By ‘triceps bar’ I mean to say a the bar that has the hammer-grip on it (hammer grip=neutral grip). It’s about 25 lbs or so and the handles are spaced out more than 8" apart. I am not sure what that bar is called, really. Basically, I can clean and press that off plates or small steps etc to simulate a log when I can’t use one. It’s not a log, but it’s closer to it than an Oly bar.
ME Lower Jan 23/07
-Deadlifts: barx3, 95x3, 115x3, 135x3, 155x3, 185x2, 205x2, 225x1, 245x1, 275x1, 300x1, 315x1(pr)
-Front squats: 135 to 155 (ramping), every set 5 reps
-Zercher Good Mornings: 135 to 155 (ramping), 5 reps per set
-grip work: 3 sets static bar hold, 2 sets pinch grip per hand
-2 sets seated calf raises
I felt really, really giddy on adrenaline in the gym. I was pacing back and forth, smiling between sets on those deads. 225 felt like absolute cake and I pretty much stiff-legged 275. 315 came off the floor much faster than I thought it would.
I think I could get 325 or even 335 next time I do deads. By mid-March, knock on wood, I think I can pull 405. Man, I love deadlifting. It’s for sure my favourite lift ! I want to make the bar bend, damnit !

yup Spike is awesome! I have been working out at about 6pm though which is a little late to be taking it, I might try taking some Spike at about 3 and see if that helps
I was extremly happy with the 195, my push press is ALL leg drive though it seems I unracked it and didnt get it on the first try, did pretty much a half squat and just pushed the weight up above my head, had it almost locked out and stuck with it and got my elbows locked. It felt real good, still a long way off from a 240 axle press though

I had my Spike at 6pm, too. I couldn’t fall asleep until 1am. Didn’t mind tho.

Nice work bro and the allleg drivwe thing is a goods thing IMO the opposite and having a hell of a time getting that down learning the technique of the leg drive etc… Mine is more two seperate moves me bouncing a little and then strict pressing LOL.Keep that technique and work on the strength.
You may consider trying to get a jerk technique down get that push then duck back under it Thats my plan but figure I better nail the push before I can even try and duck under it LOL

yup using mostly leg drive keeps the shoulders and tris fresh so you can get more reps in come comp time.
i’ve been thinking of trying a push jerk, maybe i’ll set the pins up alot higher next week and try it
