If the bar is bending at the top with 300lbs, that is awful equipment? What gym was this at? Wouldn’t happen to be an Urban Active? Those are the big chain of commercial gyms here in Columbus and I feel like I’m in the movie DODGEBALL every time I enter. I am forced to train at one b/c of location & training partner in a contract, and it blows.
Anyways, Ronaldo7, OUTSTANDING on the 303! Keep grinding and you’ll be there soon.
I lost another 4 lbs and my strength and numbers are both going up so it looks like I’ll be competing at 181 lbs in the upcoming meet. I’ll keep an eye on your posts, as we are close to the same size…
Good luck on the journey![/quote]
It’s just a local commercial gym. I don’t think the equipment is shitty(the bounce is not extremely noticeable but there’s definitely some bounce at the top) It might be the fact that all my squats are done Olympic style and as fast as possible.
And thanks!! how tall are you?

I hadn’t even thought of that, but you’re right, it’s the speed/Olympic style. No problem bro; I am 5’9, 184 lbs.
I’ve been cutting since the Oct.31st meet where I weighed in at a fat and heavy 196lbs. I used the V-diet to kick start the cut and it went really well. Actually just wrapped that up and now I’m eating whole foods again. To my surprise, my numbers all went up during the diet, so I decided this wasn’t a bad move after all. Going to try competing at 181 on Feb.6th.

Good to hear that your strength improved after the dieting. Best of luck in your next meet! Get that 400+lbs squat.
My next meet is in about 3 weeks but no squatting for me…Clean and jerk and snatch lol. Hopefully next time I test my back squat ill be at 350lbs or more…I feel 400 is not too far…97lbs to be exact lol.
Hey man, I give you props on the C&J and the snatch. Those are hard to perfect. Thanks for the support and right back at you.
Anyone looking to cut some clean weight and doesn’t mind drinking shakes, the v-diet was awesome. I dropped a weight class, leaned out some and my strength never suffered, actually numbers went up (not sure how on 1700/day, but they did). Shameless plug for Biotest, I know; but really, it was an awesome program. I continued to train Westside as I wasn’t looking for abdominals, but the nutrition side of the program was outstanding.
Slapped myself in the face a bunch of times and proceeded to make 405 look like speed work. So what’s ten dinky extra pounds gonna do?
Royally fuck my lower back, that’s what. I managed to get 415 up and with half decent speed too. My lower back got tweaked somewhere during the movement though, and I can’t bend over without tremendous pain right now.
Let’s see sep 19 I hit 369 raw at SPF’s meet at Super training in sacramento after getting over a chainsaw wound to the quad(that was the comp where Efferding totaled like 2221 raw…it was awesome being there!).
Followed a few cycles of 5/3/1, hit 420 with a belt like it was nothing at the apa meet in Sacramento on nov 14. I was playing it pretty conservative and should have set that last attempt higher.
I brought my stance in a bit and followed 5/3/1 with heavy front squats, it’s still working really well I think. I’m gunning for that 500 raw squat now.
Best of luck to everyone questing for the 400 mark!
I’m doing box squats at the moment, and I can get 4 reps of 341, but when I go down to my 2 reps set I’ve attempted 385 twice now, but couldn’t pull it off (leg issues, not back). I really feel like I’ve hit a wall and need to figure out some change to keep progressing.
After reading the Squat article from this week, I’m thinking of trying the one legged squats for a couple of weeks before making any further max attempts.
Best of luck to the rest of you guys trying to hit the 400 mark!
5/3/1 helped get my squat from 285 to 352 in over a month at 175lbs. Ive been cutting since then and would be extremely lucky to squat 302 for a couple of reps as ive lost so much strength. I hate cutting
I have to ask, why a cut at 175lbs if you’re squatting 350 at that weight? You could gain 5 lbs and still be in the 181lb weight class. Are you trying to get to the 165’s? The reason I ask…
I did my first meet in October at 198 lbs and wanted to drop to 181 for my next meet. I used the Velocity Diet last month and in 28 days I got to 182 and ALL my numbers went up. Just curious as to why you’re losing so much strength on your cut? If you need any help or ideas, let me know bro.

I was wondering that myself. Is there some local record you have a chance of beating at 165lbs? Personally I’m not going to worry about classes until I’m pushing for an elite total or some kind of record, wouldn’t cutting just slow progress for a competitive PL? Unless its a health issue of course.
Today I back squatted 140kg(308lbs) for a single after cleaning 102kg, snatching and snatch pulling for reps. It wasn’t a max effort for sure and I felt that I could get more but decided to stay there since I went heavy in the clean and jerk.
This has been my goal for a while, so I’ll throw down as well.
At the time of this thread beginning my box squat (breaking parallel) was 300 lbs for 1. Last time I attempted a PR (2 weeks ago) I hit 385 to parallel no box with a belt. I want 405 soon!
I started 5/3/1 this past week. My first rep max for squat was 310x7. Felt like shit, very grinding slow reps. Was not pleased with myself!
Edit- 6’0, 185 lbs. Was 172 for the 300 lbs box squat.
bein ‘going to the gym’ since jan09, and started serious training in october with 5/3/1. i managed a dodgy 180kg squat today (vid will be up in my log - lets make some progress). goal is to squat 180kg x10 decently by august
Since this thread has been resurrected I might as well mention I hit my first 405 lbs squat a few weeks ago, very proud of this because I achieved it in 13 months of training.
I hit a 350# squat last summer, and almost crapped in my shorts in the process. I managed to tear a hamstring in november and haven’t been able to squat or deadlift until 2 weeks ago. Now I’m back at it for a 400 squat (and 500 dead).
After 2 pretty intense week, I have hit a 365# squat, leaving a lot in the tank. Hope I can hit that 400 squat by April !
My best has been 355 at ~170lbs. However, I took a long break from lifting and lost some weight. Ill be working to get back to where i was and up to 400lb squat with the rest of you. I really wanted 4 plates by the time i was 18 but shit happens i guess.
