I normally just chisel mine off with a razor blade every 2 weeks or so.
I trim mine off with a very sharp pocket knife, then sand the edges down with a pumice stone or a file. It’s sort of meditative, since I have to maintain a very steady hand and focus to not cut myself, especially when I’m wielding the knife in my off-hand. In retrospect, maybe not for everyone, but I’ve never torn a callus.
They make some knives now with replaceable razor blades. Havalon, Gerber, outdoor edge. These have a rounded blade versus an straight edge. I use these to cut calluses once a week.
Calluses are hard and don’t stretch. Healthy skin is soft and stretchy. When you build room much callus attaches to the palm… and causes the tear. Cut em off. Ignore the moisturizer.
