This thread is awesome. I check it out a lot. And I agree with the other comments that most other threads are pissing contests. With that said, are there any other threads worth checking out that anyone knows of?
thanks hoss. i read a lot of different threads. most for the comedic value. i typically read training logs in the over 35 forum and the BOI forum. every once in awhile a good thread will pop up but unfortunately someone always turns it to shit.
Until you start benching that 495 for 8-15 on incline and using the Hammer Strengthzz exclusively, cause, ya know, are safer and target the muscle MUCH MORE EFFECTIVELY, you won’t get any views in this thread. Sorry bud! Also, don’t forget to remind everyone asking questions that they are nobodies, don’t know what lifting real weights is, and that you are a dentist…sorry, PE teacher, and thus, much more knowledgable than they are or will eve be!
I doubt meat wants crap like this in his thread.
He doesn’t mean anything by it…just venting. no harm done.
pull’n- decided to switch up our training a bit. Instead of having a squat day and a deadlift day we’ve decided to combine deads and squats on the same day. We are also going to emphasize hypertrophy with our squat variations. One day will be ME deads followed by high reps squat variations. The other day will be stuff like speed deads or deficit pulls and another squat variation for high reps. we tried it out tonight and like it a lot.
New deadlift cycle- deadlift against chains
warmup
135x6
225x6
315x6
405x2
added chains
405 + 80lbs of chain x 1
405 + 128lbs of chain x 1
405 + 160lbs of chain x 1
405 + 182lbs of chain x 5- these were easy but the new bar has so much knurling on it that it was really cutting into my hands.
You’re the awesomest PE teacher I’ve ever seen. Just out of curiosity, where you a strong kid growing up? When did you get into lifting? How long did it take you before you squatted, say 405? Sorry if questions like these have already been asked and answered. For some reason I think of you as “naturally” strong. lol

i definitely wouldn’t have called myself a strong kid. there were plenty of kids much stronger than me. i started lifting when i was about 12 years old for wrestling. i started with the old plastic weights filled concrete. i continued to lift for wrestling up through my first couple years of college. i then got into competitive bodybuilding. as a bodybuilder i would say that my best bench press was 315lbs and squat wasn’t much more than 405lbs. about 6 years ago i got into powerlifting. once i started lifting for strength and did some research, i got strong fairly quickly.
i wouldn’t call myself naturally strong but i have a strong work ethic and always stick with it. i’m constantly switching up things that don’t work to find things that do.
What kind of routine/training did you do when you started powerlifting at the aforementioned strength levels (bench 315 and squat ~405)? Did you train more days per week back then when your strength levels weren’t as high, or it was pretty much the same as you do now?
Also, I like your new lower body training plan? I might give it a try since hte competition I’m eyeing is push-pull only, so this might boost my deadlift more-so than squat.
bench’n- i’ve decided to put 5/3/1 for my bench to on hold for a little while. i’m going to go back to minicycles of supramaximal work much like deadlifts.
foam press

i started following Westside pretty much to the letter. i trained about 4 days a week.
we are doing the same thing. i’m trying to get my dead up for a push/pull as well. squats will be mostly for hypertrophy now.
