Hey Meat,

I don’t recall seeing any front squat vids for a while…do you use a oly grip or a cross hand grip on the bar?

Or perhaps a sting ray type device for your heavy sets?

After doing 5/3/1/ for the last 12 cycles (12 months) I switched to trap bar deadlifts and front squats to put more emphasis on quads and less on my lower back.

My wrists are not quite flexible enough for oly grip and cross grip kinda seemed a little unstable. I tried one of the strongman gentleman in my gyms StingRay front squat holder, and liked it…but he only uses it for super heavy sets and told me I just need to get used to the weight on my front delts.

I was just wondering what you did, probably just need get used to it…it only really hurts from 275 on up.

i wish there was a better answer but there isn’t. i used to suck at front squats but i was determined to learn to love them. it took awhile but now they are very comfortable and i can do them without evening thinking about my form. the key is training yourself to be able to squat directly down. a lot of people sit back when they squat and that doesn’t work for front squatting.

if you could get a video of yourself doing a heavy set i could give you some pointers.

pull’n- was hoping to work up to 800 today on reverse band deads but my legs still haven’t recovered from the front squat session we did on tuesday. my inner thighs were still cramping up yesterday. on my warmup sets today i felt my left hamstring starting to cramp so i shut it down. no need to pull a hamstring when it can be prevented. i’m going to turn my squat day into more of a rep day so that i’m recovered for deads for this next cycle.

Bumpty Bump! I want this gem to be one of the first 5 threads on this god-forsaken forum. Otherwise people might get lost in the naked ass-shots in other threads.

I just had the nastiest cramp on my hamstring today at work … urghh… I feel your pain. Also, is it just me or that 325x4 pendlay was with a false grip? You sick fuck…

Some nice new toyes chief…I wish I had a GHR. Also, how long have you noticed you need between Squats and Deadlifts sessions to recover your lower back/thighs. I had to deadlift on Wednesday last week (played soccer for 2 hours on Sunday and on Monday, my usual squat or dead day, I could barely walk - so instead I did Militaries) and worked up to a heavy single after my 5/3/1 set. Sure thing, Friday rolled around and I wanted to Squat - A weight I thought I would have relatively easily doubled almost made me pass out on rep 1. Frankly, I don’t think I even broke parallel… I dunno - maybe time for deload. I was just used to have squat/dead on Monday and on Fridays before, but I felt completely fried after all that.

Also, big guy, have you noticed any positive effet from your fish oil? I’ve cut out all supplements cause of health conditions and am slowly reintroducing just the essentials back in. Was wondering if Fish oil IS indeed all htat important. I don’t believe hte marketing hype on the home page here.

i stay as far away from those train wreck threads as possible. It’s like a fucking soap opera around here most times. i think if most people around here spent more time training to actually compete in something they wouldn’t spend so much time bitching back and forth.

i tried the preworkout drink again today at half strength and i still got dizzy. i think i’m just not used to stimulants. i don’t drink coffee or caffeine sodas very often at all.

yeah… i use a false grip on pretty much everything now. i even use it on curls to work the forearms.

it took me a whole week to recover from the front squat session but looking back i think my problem was my protein intake had really dropped off. i ran out of protein powder and was relying soley on food… not a good idea considering i’m used to getting in around 2 grams per pound each day. i suddenly dropped back to at the most 1 gram and my recovery abilities really suffered. i think when my diet is in check i recover after a couple days.

to be honest i have no idea if the fish oil is doing anything. i take about 10 grams of fish oil a day. i’ll let you know after my next physical. hopefully my bad cholesterol levels are lower.

thanks for reading… i’m never sure if people actually read my crap. my thread is only training. i don’t have any of that drama that so many people obviously need. do you think anyone will ever start a “In defense of Meat thread”??

10 grams of fish oil, holy cow. Your digestive track is as impressive as your lifts! Keep on inspiring

A lot of us read your thread exaclty because its only training. No bullshit drama needed. I doubt poeple will need to defend you either, as you do not run around saying dumb shit and starting internet fights. This part of the forum I have never gotten. Exactly why pointless crap is worth pages of argueing is beyond me.

I for one am very glad you update this and the BOI frequently. There are also a few other good threads in here that I guess get lost in the muck sometimes. I still make it a point to check them every so often though. It is worth it.

I am sure your cholesterol levels have dropped quite a bit if you got leaner from the last time you had them tested. Even though my cholesterol levels were tested from some blood donations I have done I have had a 27mg/dl reduction in my total cholesterol readings after leaning down a bit after my first serious bulk.

edited Just got the cholesterol results from my recent blood donation and it dropped an additional 20mg/dl just by getting a bit more leaner but still staying around the same weight.

Thanks, I kinda figured it was a suck it up kinda thing. The straight down move helps a lot…especially on heavier sets.

Thanks again!

Meat:

This thread is awesome. I check it out a lot. And I agree with the other comments that most other threads are pissing contests. With that said, are there any other threads worth checking out that anyone knows of?

Meat chief,

Until you start benching that 495 for 8-15 on incline and using the Hammer Strengthzz exclusively, cause, ya know, are safer and target the muscle MUCH MORE EFFECTIVELY, you won’t get any views in this thread. Sorry bud! Also, don’t forget to remind everyone asking questions that they are nobodies, don’t know what lifting real weights is, and that you are a dentist…sorry, PE teacher, and thus, much more knowledgable than they are or will eve be!

i spread it out over the day. i went to a huge fitness expo once and one of the speakers talked about the benefits of fish oil. He said that to get the full benefit, the dosage had to be up and beyond 10 grams a day.
