holy muscles batman! 4 tires and a log bar?
there’s two different size log bars, farmer’s walk bars, different size stones with boxes to lift them onto, and 5 tires. the biggest weighs almost 900lbs. as for powerlifting equipment, there’s a huge power rack with adjustable box, GHR, bands, chains, saftey squat, neutral grip bar, nice powerlifting bench.

I’ll give you a deadlift video either friday or saturday meat, seeing how this is my “1” week and the weight will be heavy enough to warrant form feedback. Brought my camera in today to get a better squat video but of course hte thing died on me (hadn’t charged it) and i felt i hit a good squat. Oh well… next time.
Strong overhead pressing sir! I’ve been stuck in the 190-195 range on those for some itme now. Oh well… hopefully goes up soon concidering all the triceps stuff i’ve been doing.

thanks hoss. pressing in the rack to the top of the head with heavy weight and push presses could help you get past that sticking point.

Hey MM, what kind of camera are you using to record your lifts? I think you said it was a Flip, but do you have a specific name and price?
it’s the Flip video HD. My work bought it for me but i believe it was somewhere between $150-200.
Meat, glad you found a new gym, have you continued the legacy of taint on the forehead over bars in your throat there? Great numbers and motivational as always

Ouch. A little out of my price range. Thanks though.
When you squat, do recommend holding your breath from the time you unrack til you complete the lift? Do you think its necessary? I find myself feeling more comfortable taking an extra breath right before I squat and feel I do not adequately fill my stomach with air if I only take a breath before I unrack.
It seems almost all powerlifting say you gotta hold throughout and was just wondering your take.

i hold my breath when unracking and completing the lift on pushing movements such as standing military and bench but not on squats… i would run out of air if i did that. what i do on squats is take a deep breath, hold it and step out with the weight. once my feet are set, i exhale and breath normally until i’m ready to squat. once i’m ready, i take in another deep breath and hold it throughout the rep.

skwatts- great night!!! having awesome equipment and great atmosphere really makes a difference!!! although it was cold as shit in there…no heat.
squats- used a low box to determine depth instead of having it called.
135x6
225x4
315x4
405x3
495x1
585x1
670x1-this set felt so much better than last week’s 635. form felt solid all the way through. move’n on to 700.
safety bar squat to box- paused
135x10
225x10x2
that’s it. hips were very fatigued after all of this.
-lastly, don’t press up but back over the head. pressing straight up is mostly triceps. pressing up and back over the head incorporates more muscle groups.
again, awesome physique. i respect you for walking the walk hoss. not many ever do.
Quoted from Whitwell thread to not hijack that excellent read,
But, this advice is excellent. I recently started military pressing and found that when I drove the bar up and back the bar speed was amazing compared to the feeling of just pressing up.
Also, a key point into getting the rear focus is what you have stressed regarding bar placement on the hand, aligned more toward the wrist rather than fingers.

Always excellent technique advice from you MM!!
thanks hoss. all of my advice comes from things i’ve figured out the hard way and doing things wrong.
Here is a deadlift vid from today. I worked up to 405x1, which i thought would be heavy, considering i did 415 beginning of December and barely locked it out (pretty much maxed out). This 405 from today though felt like a warmup and didn’t slow down at all. I felt good about it. So yes, form critique is welcome, i would love to get this closer to 480 range by spring time when i plan on competing
The only change i made in my deadlift programming since December is that i have added Heavy Rack Pulls just below knee level for singles to get me used to heavy weight. Before that i used to do speed pulls with chains but i don’t think they ever helped me with anything. As i said before - my sticking point is off the ground and first 2-3 inches. If i can get it to mid-shin level i know i have it pretty much.
My current Deadlift Day split is like that
Deadlift 5/3/1
Rack Pulls below knee level - 2-3 heavy sets x 1-2 reps
Quads (i think Quads have big role in a big pull, at least for me) - Leg Press or Hack Squat Machine - Heavy and for high-ish (10-15) reps and highish (4-5) sets
Abs - some
Calves - some
On Squat Days (these also help for the Deadlift probably) i do the following
Squat 5/3/1
Squat to Pins set high (1 notch above parallel) to get me used to much heavier weight as well - 2-3 heavy sets x 1-2 reps
Hams - Either Power Squat Machine or Good Morning for mid to high reps (5-8 or 10-15) and ~2-3 sets
Abs - some
Calves - some
So, yeah - form critique and programming help are welcome
