Nice. I get to front squat with Meat!!

sounds good… give me a call.

bench and stuff…

Coolnatedawg trained with us tonight. What’s up with these big ol’ boys coming down to train?? VTballa came to train with us at one point and he is also a big tall dude…named Nate. Maybe i’m just a short fuck.

anyway…decided to throw in some 4 board work for the reverse grip bench. i need to get used to handling heavier weight to get my full ROM reverse grip up over 500. i think the 4 board stuff is just what i need.

4 board reverse grip

315x4
405x2
495x1
545x1- went up easy, so i decided to take it up to 585. brought it down a little too high and stalled hard. attempted it again immidiately after missing it and was fried.

next week i’ll be more conservative and go to 560.

decline bench
225x10
315x10
405x9-lost count

incline dumbell bench-paused
140’s x 10 x 2

skull crushers
135x6
185x6
225x6

hammer strength dip machine
6plates x 8
8plates x 8
10plates x 4- couldn’t stay under the knee brace thingy.

standing calf raise

stack x 8-10 x 6

Do you use a straight bar for these? I know some people have had issues with elbow tendonitis on these, has that not been an issue for you?

My elbows hurt just by watching the video

skwatts and stuff…

Coolnatedawg made it out again today for our skwatt session. he hit some very respectable numbers on the front squats to a box. too bad he’s moving to the beach. he would make a great addition to our team.

0x6
135x6
225x6
315x4
405x1
585x1 +20lbs from last week… gett’n closer to the 600’s.

front squats in smith machine- close stance, paused at bottom, with heels elevated

135x6
225x6
275x6
315x6

bent over barbell rows
0x10
135x6
225x6
315x6
365x6

face pulls on seated cable machine

some x some

preacher curls

some x some

MM, your intensity is amazing in that last video, the eyes have it all. Loving this thread.

savage front squatting, going to add front squats to a box as a new ME movement after seeing your vids.

Are you shitting me? Two plates per side for an iso exercise like skull crushers? Damn bro, you are damn strong, and you have just brought up my inspiration to a whole new level. I need to watch your videos before every workout!

thank you my friend. i’m glad you get something out of it.

i use a ton of different variations of the front squat as a ME. I have vids of fronts squats off low pins, front squats against bands, paused front squats, no hands front squats, and front squats to a box. i feel that if you can develop good form and get strong at front squats all your other lifts will benefit from them. it also gives the back a much needed rest.

i think most people don’t do them because initially they feel so awkward. in my case, i kept at it and now they feel more comfortable than back squats.

thank hoss.

i am definitely a video whore. i’m really glad that some of them may inspire you.

I love to do front squats and like you say when I get better on them my back squat improves. Also find them easier on my lower back (have an excessive curve). Haven’t tried any variations on front squats yet though. They’re a bitch to try and do high reps on though, seem to take a lot more out of me breathing wise than high rep back squats.
Great log MM.

I do no-handed FS sometimes to make sure I don’t lean forward, but I never thought of it as a different exercise altogether. Do you do them differently than your conventional front squat?

i will often do them for back off sets after my heavy stuff. i typically will do those for higher reps (around 10) and paused rock bottom or i will do them with really light weight and high reps (around 30) and keep constant tension on the quads by not locking out at the top.

i find that the best rep range for me on moderate to heavy weight is 1-6 reps. i will then typically do back off sets with light weight for higher reps. the core is the limiting factor on heavy sets. it’s not like when doing back squats, the bar isn’t just sitting across your shoulders and supported by you bone structure. front squats require the entire torso to support all that weight. it fatigues quickly.

thanks hoss.

a buddy of mine sent me the link to this today. I made it onto a Strength Feat Compilation. Not sure if i deserve it, but appreciative just the same.

Lol, they “only” picked your incline bench? I thought some of your front squats could definitely give those o-lifters a run for their money…
