Fuck me sideways. That complex sucked. I got to the gym and just tried out the movements with the bar and thought, piece of cake. Instead of doing “week 1” of 4 sets, 5 reps, 90s rest I opted for “week 2” of 5 sets of 5 reps, 75s rest. I almost died.

A. Bent over rows
B. Hang clean
C. Front squat/push press hybrid
D. Jump squats (bar on back)
E. Good mornings

So it was 5 reps of A, straight into 5 reps of B, etc. I got 75seconds of rest after 5 reps of E before I started again. Five rounds. I used 65lbs for the first 2 rounds then stripped off some 5s to make it 55lbs for the last two. The hardest part were the hang cleans and front squat/push press. All in all, the session took me 11 minutes to complete. I did some russian twist abs with a med ball after to appease my chiro/ART guy. I also ran into ddot and we chatted for a bit.

I then went and did the smartest thing of all… I played 2 hours of mainly 2v2 beach volleyball. There was the odd game with 3 a side. So now that I’ve showered and got all the sand out of places sand should never be, I’m beat, ready to eat again and then going to bed SUPER early. Like 7pm early hahaha. I need to ice my shoulder and knee because they’re a little angry at me, but other than that I plan on doing nothing tonight. I’m excited.

PS. Front squat/push press hybrid is also known as a thruster. I’m all about cutting back on word consumption :wink:

Oh Court! I totally feel your pain on those complexes! They are the DEVIL! I did them for 4 weeks a year or two ago and by the end of the 4th week, (I think it’s 6x6 with 45 sec rest) I almost blacked out! But yeah, they are great if you ever want to get in a short, effective workout!

Sooooooooo. Went down to Niagara this morning. Heading down for training pretty much turned out to be a waste of my time. To take a positive outlook however, I learned an important lesson. Keep in mind I shirted on Thursday. Stay tuned.

175x1 - chest, didn’t finish the lift. My left arm pretty much collapsed. My comment after it was racked was “And I’m done”.

So I shirted Thursday. I felt good and rested going into today so I convinced Hoi to put me back in my shirt instead of just working raw with boards. I knew he wasn’t necessarily in agreement with me, but he went with it. The 175 felt heavy in my hands. I tried to convince myself it wasn’t but my body didn’t agree. I had good bar speed, hit my chest on the right spot, so that’s a positive. I just didn’t have the oomph to finish the lift.

There ended up being a bit of an impromptu bbq afterwards and Hoi and I discussed my dumb idea to shirt. I said I know I have the strength so it wasn’t a blow to my confidence, it was more of a “Wow Court, you’re dumb. Don’t shirt twice in a week again”. He said it was good for me to learn because I could have very well gone out and had a rocking session. He wasn’t going to decide for me. He’s also happy with how my training has been going and how I’ve been developing and taking control of my training because he knows I will be fine when I move away for school and am on my own for the most part. It’s nice having someone in your corner who has been at every national championship since 1991 (we watched some old videos of it today and it was hilarious) :smiley:

So I left my house at 8:30am and got home at 8:30pm. It was a good day despite the shitty training.

Training for the next bit:

Wed 20th: Raw bench - lots of reps. Squat - suit on, strap down, knees wrapped, ligher than opener
Sat 23rd: Squat - full gear, heavy singles, likely to around 320/325ish. Deadlift - full gear, to opener
Mon 25th: Shirted bench - heavy singles
Wed 27th: Raw bench - lots of reps. Squat - suit on, strap down, knees wrapped, 3x3 likely
Sat 30th: Squat - full gear to opener. Shirted bench - to opener

Sleep, eat, rest, recover, focus.

I wrote my training so I would remember it more than anything. Tonight is off and early sleep (I’ve been having super messed up dreams lately, including one last night that scared the shite out of me and I didn’t fall back asleep for like an hour).

Btw, I thought I decided a while ago that I wasn’t going to do standing good mornings until after my meet because of how much they destroy my hamstrings. Well I did them Sunday in that circuit with super light weight and my hams still hurt. Effers.

Complexes are very humbling
I did them in college and do them now even though Im old and creaky…

95 pounds usually does me in.

I am trying to follow a program to the letter so I am not doing them right now, but
they really help with 3 things

No worries. I’ve had a “I’m slow” day today. I’m not getting enough oxygen or something. You should see the state of affairs on my facebook wall and the bad “joke attempts” I’m letting fly. I’m actually pretty embarrassed.

When I went away to law school and got my first apartment, I was so touched when my mother gave me her old pots and pans and what not.

Yeah I knew my mom would come around eventually. She just wasn’t too keen on me moving so far away from everyone I know when I could go to a school with just as good of a program which was only a 2hour flight away and that had 2 direct flights in/out of Toronto a day. Oh well. So she’s going to come down with me for 3.5 days, help me get set up, etc. I’ll need to do all the fun stuff like: cell phone, bank account, furniture/cooking stuff, initial grocery trip, etc. My mom is great for that :slight_smile:

I’m squatting tonight and thank f*cking god. Not sure if any of you remember but a few months back I was talking about my birth control and all the craziness associated with it. Well, I decided to switch back to what I was originally on because everything else just made me feel flat. So now that I have more horomones pumping through me, I’m a nasty mean bitch right now while my body readjusts.

I have zero fuse and a very quick temper. I can just feel the anger building inside me today so I’m doing my best to not kill my coworkers/clients and just make it until I can get to the gym and squat tonight. Definitely will be a headphones on, ignore the world evening.

I hung out with my best friend last night and we had an ice cream date and even that didn’t make me feel better. We were talking about exes (hers more than anything) and her favorite quote of mine from all of last night (and I was full of them) was: “Everyone’s an asshole. The sooner you figure that out, the better off you’ll be”. I also gave her the “only person you have to be happy with/please is yourself, fuck everyone else”. She liked that one too.

I ended up being almost in Niagara for work today (as in it should have taken me 15min to get to the Y), so after talking with one of the guys during the day and telling them I planned on finding someone’s face at the gym to use as a punching bag, he suggested I head there…that the laughs might do me some good. Well, accidents suck and my 15min drive took me an hour. But I eventually got there, apparently with an angry aura around me. Everyone was already mid-training and no one was squatting so they left me to warm up alone while I settled myself. Ended up having a pretty great session. But to be honest, I’m looking forward to my week off before the meet. I’m thinking of decreasing my training volume even more than planned over the next week.

We were going to try to go up to 135 for a single today without doing a lot of warm up. I just didn’t have it in me. Both singles at 115 weren’t that pretty, so I said I’d rather go for 125 than 135. I controlled it until about an inch off my chest and then it hit me and didn’t move. Reminded me of the Niagara meet haha. By this point it was just two of the guys and me and they laughed at me because they decided I’ll be the first girl that can bench 2 plates in a shirt that can’t even bench 1 raw :slight_smile: I love my boys.

I really need to work on my mental focus in the next little while. Strength is there and I’m only missing lifts because of stupid mental errors. Saturday is going to be a zoo at the club so since I squatted heavy today I’m only deadlifting to my opener and socializing. Monday will be shirt work. Wed may be light bench only or off. Friday or Saturday will be my last squat to my opener and shirt to my opener. Since I’m feeling a little run down I will probably err on the side of less training over the next week than more. As has been pointed out, I’m not going to get any stronger and I know what I need to do. I’m confident in all of my lifts but know I need another good shirt session to feel great about that.

The rest is about my mental prep. Two of the guys seem to understand how I work and what I need to hear to get me focused and ready, or what fires me up to make the lift I need. They speak to me in a way that works well for me so we’ve had some good convos over the last few days/weeks. Even after training tonight I got an email from one and a phone call from the other about tonight’s session. It’s awesome and extremely helpful and confidence boosting.
