Revolution is My Name

I wouldn’t say I’m on a low-carb ‘diet’, it’s just the way it has to be. I ‘earn,’ my starchier carbs after I’ve trained…other than that it’s fruits/veggies.

Julie- I bet you eat more than I do!coughbitchcough

I do love food though, so if I’ve been craving something I’ll save it for after training…

How low of carbs are you talking btw? I don’t know how much you normally eat, but why not just add in cardio instead of ‘starving,’ yourself?
Just curious! :)
Court’s not too good at ‘low carbs’ as I witnessed last time when she tried to do 10 days of no/low carbs.

My suggestion is to expend more energy NOW (on a lowered calorie diet) and get under weight so that she can cruise to Jan 24 without worrying about strength, etc.

I’d wager with 40 minutes of LI cardio/day between now and the 17th that she’d be around 147 (on a caloric deficit diet).

I’d wager I wouldn’t because I’m about to get my period and will be at a heavier weight next week as my body hates me.

I’m on about 1500cals on non-training days and 1700-1750 on training days and am still dropping weight daily. I’ll be okay if I drop for another day or two and then stay constant or gain a little for the next week. I have no doubt that I will make weight.

Here’s another suggestion…

If you’re still having shakes of any kind, cut them out. Replace them with meals.

Your body will use more energy to digest a chicken breast than it will to digest a shake.

I used that technique for 3 weeks during my prep and my metabolism heated up like Mark McGwire at a Senate Committee hearing.

I have started to take Krill oil to deal with PMS symptoms (bloating, cramps, mood). It seems to be helping. I think it takes a while to work but it might help.

I’m thinking of changing what birth control pill I’m on, but not until after the meet. I’ve been on it for about 4 years now and never had ANY PMS symptoms until the fall.

The only thing I’m really getting since then are some killer chocolate cravings (I typically don’t like chocolate) and these horrible bitch moods that come on for no reason, I’ll knock everyone down in my path and then they’ll fade into the background just as quickly only to build back up hours later.

I’m like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde around my period now. You never know which side of me you’re going to get.

Chicken is a dirty word to me right now. I need a break from it. I was glaring at my chicken at lunch and barely choked it down. I’ve moved to some fish for now. I hear what you’re saying. I’ll do what I need to do once I see where I’m at after my TOM.

I’m getting my BF% tested again tomorrow by Mr. “You have fat legs” so I’ll at least ensure I’ve been losing fat.

I deal with pms by lashing out at everyone in my path. I find it works quite nicely. My kids may need therapy at some point in the future but c’est la vie.

I didn’t know there were any other sides OTHER than Jekyll and Hyde. Man I got a lot to learn about you.

I am entirely beat, wiped, tuckered, exhausted, etc etc etc. Had a killer heavy squat and deadlift session tonight in Niagara (and more importantly, had a blast doing it), my last heavy heavy sessions.

Squat
45x10x1
95x5x1
135x3x1
185x2x1
225x1x1 → belt
245x1x1 → belt, wraps
275x1x2 → belt, wraps

The 275 didn’t feel heavy tonight, but apparently they were ugly and uglier. The first I didn’t get my chest up enough to start in a strong position. The second I got my chest up, but didn’t sink fast enough so I cut it right on parallel because my wraps wouldn’t let me go further without speed. They both came up pretty well considering the crapiness.

Deadlift
135x5x2
205x1x1
225x1x1
275x1x1 → PR (hideous, but a PR)
225x1x1
245x1x1

So the 275 was possibly the ugliest pull in my life. I didn’t breath into my belt, but rather into my chest. As a result, I wasn’t held tight, the bar came way out from my body and I pulled through my back. I still finished it though.

I wanted to go for it again after the 245 came up so pretty after but Matt said no. He said I have to be pissed off about it until the meet and pull it there.

We went and biked and talked about my attempts, about my squats and deadlifts tonight, etc. He gave me a pep talk and said I just need to believe I can lift it. Matt’s going to be my handler and submitting all my attempts. I have an idea of what the plan is, however he has the final say. He wants me to go 9 for 9 with PRs and said he will not give me what I want for a 3rd attempt if I don’t have the fire in my eyes that says I will lift it. I’m to be honest with him after each attempt about how it felt and he will decide on my numbers from there. I actually really like this.

My attempts will be as follows:

Squat -
110/112.5kg (242.5/248lbs)
125/127.5kg (275/280lbs)
137.5/140kg (303/308lbs)

Bench -
45kg (99lbs)
50kg (110lbs)
55kg (121lbs)

Deadlift -
110/112.5kg (242.5/248lbs)
125/127.5kg (275/280lbs)
137.5/140kg (303/308lbs)

Those are obviously ranges. We had talked about a 245lb opener for both squat/deadlift, however such a thing doesn’t exist

Oh I also got my BF% tested again today. Since Dec 8th (so almost exactly a month), it decreased by 2.2%. My weight is down (obviously) and my lean body mass is actually up by about 4lbs. They were pretty shocked… The biggest difference was my iliac pinch which was 3mm less.

I’m happy about all of that considering during that month I went to California for a week and also had the holidays. I’ve really only been ‘perfect’ with my planned diet since Jan 2nd.

I have no doubt that Court can hit all of those third attempts with no difficulty at all. Particularly squat. I didn’t really see her lifts tonight since I was doing my own thing but having watched her squat many times, I say no problem to 308.

What stuns me is how much I’ve revised my estimate on her final attempts from when we first started training together. I’ll have to dig them up but I think squat was 250 for a third.

I came across this post the other day. It’s from Nov. 13:

So I’m going to throw out the numbers that I think Court will do in Niagara in January.

This assumes she is using wraps and belt only.

Squat: 250
DL: 270
Bench: 110

Total 630 lbs or 286 kg

The provincial/national qualifying total for her weight class is 262.5 kg.

That gives her lots of room so she should be able to qualify easy peasy.

For anyone else that’s seen her train what do you think? Maybe we should throw some cash at this.

Todd said:

As for her numbers, those are pretty good guesses. She still has two months of training left. I think she’s at the top of the squat curve so that number won’t increase significantly. I could see her squeezing out 265 (345 if some dude tells her she can’t).

Pulling I haven’t seen her do too much. But she’s getting the proper instruction now so I can’t really say with utmost certainty. I’ll say she pulls 285lbs.

As for bench, the girl has untapped potential in my opinion. She’s learning HOW to bench and she’s a pretty good pupil in terms of taking in and applying knowledge. She’s at 100lbs now. In 2 months, with say a 2.5lb increase over 8 weeks, that another 20lbs. I’ll say she benches 120lbs.

So here are my guesses:

Squat - 265lbs/ 120.2kg
Dead - 285lbs/ 129.2kg
Bench - 120lbs/ 54.4kg

That’s 670lbs or 303kg.

Sounds like she under estimates herself

Good luck – sounds like good numbers…

Went to the gym this afternoon for some light cardio, mobility and stretching. I ended up doing a bit of benching for form as well.

I also ended up getting my shirt to wear under my singlet and my socks. I tried this outfit on for my mother (plus my belt), just to show her. My youngest brother said “Court, never wear that in front of me again”. Apparently they both found the singlet rather offensive. My puppy didn’t like it either… she barked at me like crazy until I went and changed.

I haven’t put the singlet on since I first got it - I think I’m going to wear it to squat this week just to get a feel for it since it’s rather tight around my thighs. I think I might wear it with some regular shorts overtop though… I get enough looks as is.

Why do you care what people think you look like? Besides, you are wearing a pink shirt, with a pink belt and soon to have pink Chuck T’s!

You’re right…fuck it. I’m training with Ouro on Friday, so maybe I’ll save the outfit for then. Then she won’t feel like the only freak when she’s wearing her squat suit and bench shirt  I’ll even bench in my singlet…that’ll be sexy. I think I’ll wear the hot pink shirt too just so it looses its virginity before the meet.

Firebug/PMPM/whoever else may know…

I’m competing under IPF rules. I heard that since I am a new lifter (ie. I just got my card for 2009) that I may be able to still compete at Nationals if I hit my qualifying total. The Open provincials aren’t until September and nationals are at the beginning of April.

Any thoughts on this? Chatting with ouro and looking at National results from the last few years I think I could do well, especially if I were to get into some equipment before then.

Court, e-mail someone from the Ontario fed and find out. In Quebec, we have to qualify at a Provincial meet to go to the Nationals. The CPU website just says that you must fulfill your provinces additional requirements. They may be different in Ontario than they are here.

Monday Jan 12, Gym

I have mixed feelings about today… Everything felt light (as it should), however I cut both of my squat singles high. The second for sure is high and I think the first is barely parallel, if even that…

Squat:
45x10x1
95x5x1
135x3x1
185x1x1 → belt
205x1x1 → belt
225x2x2 → belt, wraps
245x1x2 → belt, wraps

This is the second single at 245:

Bench (all pretty long pauses):
45x10x1
65x5x1
85x3x1
95x2x2
105x1x1

Squat (fast, fast, fast):
135x3x3

I’m trying to attach the first single at 245, but it wouldn’t upload to my profile so we shall try. It may show up at the top lol

Here’s the first set at 245…
