Just wanted to say…
Your squat sucks.
Stay the hell out of my weight class.
I bet you do better pulling sumo. We have similar body types, and it just feels better than conventional pulling for me.
Way to go!!!

PMPM - I thought I might fit in in your weight class since we both have horribly unattractive man legs lmao.
Biggest compliment ever about my squat. Thanks ![]()
And as for sumo, I plan on giving it a whirl after my meet to test it out. I played once with it ages ago, but realize now I wasn’t in the right position at all.

I entirely agree with PCH’s advice, but make sure you’re going for the program and not any other ancillary inducements, if you get my drift. You’re up for two years in the trenches and likely will have little time for much else.
Also, keep in mind that your degree is often most influential near where it was earned unless it’s top-20. If Cali means Stanford, you’re pretty much golden.
I do catch your drift, and it’s not. I’ve made it a point for it not to be.
I figure that’s where I want to work after (as in that’s where the industry lives), so it would be easier for me to transfer to something there, as well as get my summer internship in that area as oppossed to being in Nashville.
I like that it’s a smaller program and I like the way the program is actually designed along with my international opportunities along the way.
While at the end of the day, it is my decision, my mother’s opinion means a lot to me. She’s been doing her own research over the holidays and we had a long chat while wandering the mall today about her perceived advantages of each school. She’s actually leaning very heavily towards California herself for reasons similar to what I listed above. Also, once she was certain my decision wasn’t being made for ancillary inducements, she agreed the program was likely better to suit my needs and wants.
I still have over a month to decide and plan on taking as much time as I need to ensure that my decision is one that I will be most happy with. Thanks for the chime-in sdspeed… :)[/quote]
I think it’s great that you and your mom are talking it out. Your mom sounds like a great…, well…, mom.
Actually, considering the internship is important. I went halfway across the country, but that was mostly because I had already built a sizable network from a previous business I’d had and leveraged it for the job. Few have that.
I hope I didn’t sound (too much) like I was shilling for Owen, because I’m not. Frankly, if I could do it all again, I’d do everything differently in a different order at a different time. He who does not look back on his (or her) life with some chagrin has learned nothing. But it sounds like you’re thinking everything through carefully, and that’s the best you can do.
Bon chance.
I didn’t train at the barn again yesterday and I really miss it. Apparently I was the only one cool enough to have NYE plans… I’m not going to tell you what they were because they were just that cool. Anyways, was at my gym earlier in the day. It was alright, but I find it’s tough to get through a 2 hour session by myself.
I sort of lose my motivation and just want to leave. It also takes a hell of a lot out of me to wrap my knees. Not to mention they’re currently all bruised and hurt like a bitch.
All in all, I still had a pretty good session:
Bench
45x10x1
65x5x1
85x3x1
100x2x3
100x3x1 → Todd spotted me on this set and didn’t like how I paused on the first rep so made me do a third.
100x2x1
Squat
45x10x1
95x5x1
135x3x1
155x3x1
185x1x1 → Belt
205x1x1 → Belt
225x2x5 → Belt, Wraps
Bench Pin Presses
These were done with my elbows bent at 90 degrees. The bar might have been a little low, but I worked with what I had. I was exhausted by this…ugh
115x2x1
125x1x0
120x2x3
I’m supposed to train in Niagara tomorrow but haven’t heard from my friend yet. I’m going to have to stalk him today to see if it’s still going on. Those guys have talked to me about my peaking program and they weren’t the biggest fans of my coaches. I used their advice this week and will see what they think for next week before I decide what to do.
I have been so tired lately. I think it’s because I’ve been on vacation so haven’t really had a schedule. I’ve been going to bed later and sleeping in. My body isn’t a fan. Today I’m having a lazy day… in fact, my whole family is. It’s after 1pm and we’re all still in our pajamas. I may take an epsom salt bath after to make up with my muscles.
I also have the best mother in the world. I posted my diet on the fridge earlier this week and she’s been doing everything she can to help me. Today she chopped up all my vegetables and put them in tupperware. She also cut up my meat into the appropriate portion sizes after she cooked it. She’s really quite fantastic.
Her and my dad are leaving tomorrow for Denver to watch my brother in a hockey tournament so she’s trying to help me be as organized as I can. So now, my fridge is filled with tupperware of all sorts of stuff. She rocks ![]()
You do have a great mom. It’s important to have people around that support what you are doing.
We missed you last night. Well I missed you. I really needed someone to roll eyes with me.
I have to say, last night was, without a doubt, the most pissed off I’ve been.

It’s funny because I know deep down she’s not the biggest fan of me powerlifting and having to diet down just to make weight, but it’s what I want and it makes me happy so she’s helping me the only way she knows how. Not to mention her and my father won’t be at the meet because they’ll be watching my brother play hockey. It’s better that way though. As it is, I feel I’m going to have far too many people there watching.
I’ve seen you pretty pissed off (ie. pre-Ottawa) and if this was the worst, then wow. I probably would have actually lost it because I’ve been rather quick-tempered lately.
Instead I watched my dog literally fall asleep sitting down. She wanted to stay with all the action and I could see her eyes getting heavy…all of a sudden she closed her eyes and her head tilted to the side and her whole body began to fall over until she jolted awake and stopped herself.
My mom swears she’s just like a little kid and that my brothers and I used to do the same when we wanted to stay up… try as we might, we always fell asleep. Lila proceeded to lie down on her doggie bed and pass out.
So first off, I would like to edit my previous statement of pulling 275. I’d like to revise to 315. Why you ask? Cuz the Niagara boys would like to see me attempt 308lbs (140kg) as my third lift. Sweet. Ass.
I went down to Niagara again this morning and met a few more of the guys. We had a hilarious conversation about them spotting squats… one of the guys said with the female lifters they always fought over who got to be the back spotter.
He told me that what he was about to say would either make me hit all my attempts or fail miserable on them… he said we would get to third base, I might get pregnant and we’d probably have to date for a while if i missed. I laughed so hard. I think they were kind of kidding… at least about the pregnancy part hahaha.
Anyways, training went as follows:
Deadlift
135x5x1
155x3x1
185x2x1
225x2x3 → all super easy
Bench
45x6x1
65x3x1
85x3x1 → pause last rep
95x3x5 → pause last rep on each
95x2x2 → full commands, long pauses on both reps
Good Mornings
45x5x5 → my hammies are so damn tight
Standing Weighted Crunches
60x20x1
70x20x1
60x20x2
We then biked for 15 minutes and Matt stretched me out (yes, that sounds dirty, and it looked even dirtier). My hamstrings were killing me to the point that when he was stretching them I was swearing at him and called him a whore. Such a pleasant girl I am ![]()
I did a lot more volume this week than I’m used to but I think it’ll end up making me better for the meet. My body knows what it’s supposed to do and I’ve been training harder than with coach’s typical program. I definitely feel better about all of my lifts. Sometimes a little outside perspective and attention is what’s needed.
Today I plan on taking yet another epsom salts bath, doing more mobility and foam rolling. Sunday at the barn…

So it was all the Niagara boys idea to pull 315 huh? I think I have officially moved down on Courts priority scale.

Thats me!
I’m officially only 4lbs away from what I need to make weight. I have 3 weeks to do it and it’s really nothing. Originally I only had 6lbs, however the holidays and my Cali vacation upped that to about 8
It’s amazing what getting back to eating healthy and drinking lots of water can do. I’m officially not stressed about this anymore because the diet is going really really well and I’m following it exactly.
On another note, my hamstrings feel like they were ripped apart and sewn back together. They hurt that bad. Damn goodmornings and me having super tight hammies… I’m thinking of finding a lacrosse ball and just going to town on them. Any other suggestions? I have to squat and deadlift tomorrow so they need to feel better.

Good news on the weight. I’m still fighting with the 2 lbs but I haven’t been drinking much water.
I usually have a hot bath with epsom salts. I’ve never tried foam rolling or anything with a ball. Does it help? My legs are still screaming from Thursday. I love good mornings.

Ya it feels good to not have to stress about it. Glyn and Matt basically told me to shut up and not worry about it, just make sure I was eating well and it would come. I was stressed cuz 148/149 is at the lowest end of what weight I’ve seen in ages.
I’ve been epsom salt bathing like it’s my job. I’ll have another this afternoon. The foam rolling does help. It hurts like a bitch, but I usually feel better after.
Going to take my dog to the leash-free this afternoon. She’s moping around and pissing me and my brother off with my parents gone. She keeps going upstairs and sniffing against their door like they’re just hiding in there from her. Poor girl. First I leave for a week in Cali, during that time my brother comes home from college, then we have a ton of people coming and going around the holidays, my brother heads back to school right after Christmas, my other brother goes away like 2 days later for New Years, gets back one day and my parents leave the next. I think my dog will need counselling once we get back on our routine.
Sounds like we are all in the same boat with the weight thing. I’m at 136.5 this morning, down from a whopping 142 last week. I have been a good girl and doing cardio 4 times a week. I’ll start with the ACV today, up the water a bit and since there is no more cake or chocolate left in the house, I should be good to go.
Court, what kind of dog do you have? Dogs are the best, mine is sitting here on my lap but she’s damn heavy and getting hair all over me, as usual.

I have a boxer. She’s still a puppy (9 months) and dumb as a bag of rocks. She didn’t get kicked out of the doggy park yesterday which is up from her behaviour there last week when my dad took her. Lila thinks she’s a lap dog and hasn’t quite grasped the concept of personal space. She also doesn’t get ‘little’ dogs, especially those that bark and snap at her.
That’s why my dad had to kick her out last week. This week there was a little 2-3lb dog (rat) and he thought he was awfully tough barking at Lila until she used her super boxing abilities and smushed the poor thing. I finally got her attention to go play with her friend, a white shepard, and she left the little ones alone lol.
What is this apple cidar vinegar trick you use? I know O used it before London…
The Niagara boys stopped by to pick up some boxes to create a lifting platform that our coach stores in our barn. They all looked at me as if to say ‘no big deal’ when I said I was at 153.2. They said if I can get down to 150-151 in 2 weeks I can drop that in water and not suffer from it “at my age”.
Sunday, January 4, SC Barn
Today at the barn was ‘special’. And we’ll leave it at that. Ouroboro, Pete and I were all vying for the rookie award. I smashed my knee on a plate, dropped my knee wraps twice while trying to roll them and I know I did some other stupid stuff but can’t remember.
Bench
45x10x1
65x5x1
85x5x1
95x2x3 → all paused
105x2x2 → all paused
Squat
45x10x1
95x5x1
135x5x1
165x3x1
195x1x1 → belt
225x2x2 → belt, wraps
245x1x1 → belt, wraps
Deadlift
135x5x1
165x1x1
195x2x2
I was pissed off so I went home after this. I’d already been there for nearly 3 hours anyways…
However on a good note, I felt super strong today. Everything felt light and easy.

You missed my spazzy maneuver after you left when I dropped a 45 and it rolled across the floor.
Also, after you left Pete demonstrated that on DL, his arms are so short, the bar goes past his package on lockout. I powdered his legs for him but said you could look after the package powder.
You are right in that all your lifts looked super easy. The 245 squat looked like a body weight nothing.
Thanks again for the help with the shirt. I feel so close now.

I use the ACV tablets, 2 of them 3 times a day, it does help flush out water. The 2 meets I’ve done I had to cut 5-6lbs each time and it was easy to do. No ill effects, and I’m a lot older than you.
I have a Jack Russell terrier, she thinks she is a lap dog but weighs in at a hefty 21lbs. She hates other dogs though, and picks fights if given the opportunity. My next dog will be a boxer, I just love them.
