I just caught up on the last 3 pages or so.

Deadlift form looks good. There are tons of things you can do for grip. Hex dumbbell holds and plate pinches are the first two that came to mind.

Thanks BG, really appreciate your input. I think I’ll try some plate pinches since my gym doesn’t have hex DBs. Or, as Todd says, just suck it up and lift.

Nice job on the dead lift. Your form looked good. Now sack up and put some real weight on there.
Load for six, lift for eight.
Load for six, lift for eight.
Load for six, lift for eight.

I have it in my head now. See what happens when you don’t visit and I don’t talk to you? I forget your little mantras.

And relax about your legs. We have had this discussion before so I don’t need to beat a dead horse.
Yes dear.

Nice work Court. Are you a competitive volleyball player, by any chance? Your last two avatar pics have you playing beach volleyball, so I didn’t know if you are setting out to dethrone Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh as two-time Olympic Gold Medalists for women’s beach volleyball. If so, good luck.
I’m competitive and I’m a volleyball player. Does that count? lol. My parents always joke when I tell them about another tourney I’m in that I’m training for the 2012 Olympics to beat Misty and Kerri. In my dreams maybe

I play adult league competitive and love the game. I’ve played in a lot of tournaments this summer. The reason for the avatars is because people keep taking pics that I really enjoy. I like the action shots where you have no idea the pic is being taken. And I like this one more cuz my arms actually look like they have some muscle in them lol.

Just a quick update from me:

I hurt.

That is all.

As far as size, I do have concerns over this. At the end of the day, I want to look good naked and feel comfortable and confident with my body. Yes I want to be strong and lift heavy and everything else, but most importantly I want to be comfortable being me.
With all due respect you do have a very nicely proportioned physique. Your avatar picture is pretty much what a woman is s’posed to look like in my book.

GREAT deadlift form. Count me among the envious. Thanks for chronicling your efforts, by the way. It takes a lot of guts, which you obviously have in abundance, to put it out there for everyone to read. You’re doing a GREAT job and deserve all the good that comes from it.

Thanks Herk!

As for chronicling my efforts, I enjoy it. It’s my outlet to whine/bitch/complain, but most importantly hold myself accountable.

So Todd is on drugs. No, not performance enhancing or anything like that, but more the messes with your mind kind. We were discussing his contest prep and all of his cardio he has to do (hahaha 70 minutes tomorrow on his off day hahaha) and he said if I did PL I’d have to diet to. We then got into a discussion we’ve had many a times… if I’d ever make the 132lb class.

So now we have a little bet going on… Mainly so I can suffer from lack of carbs like him I think. He’s one sick puppy.

Anyways, starting Monday I am going to go on a 10 day shift from what I’ve been doing. Limit myself to 60g total carbs/day, mainly PWO. 5-6L of water. We’ll modify my training slightly and add in some HIIT (considering I have vball once and dodgeball once each week). I’ve been sitting consistently at 155 in the morning and Todd has an opinion on what I will weigh at the end of 10 days. Anyone else care to chime in?

Just to give everyone else a fair shot, I weighed 155 in Jan. Trained for my half marathon and ran that about 151 in May. The lowest I’ve gotten since then (even when I did a low carb for a while) was 148.6. My waist/torso measurements have consistently been decreasing and my quad measurements have begun to increase since July when I started my 225 quest.

Thoughts anyone?

150 or 151 - Tharrr be predition you scurvey butt butt!

I say 5-6 pounds lost if you’re strict.

Downwardog…are you squatting a DOE?! You’re my new hero.

Re: the DL clips, in the first your form is very good, in the second you’re doing this secondary dip every rep and loading the quads. I’m thinking you don’t mean to do that.

Thanks for noticing that. In the second one I was trying to remember “get your butt down” before I lifted the bar each time and when I was bringing the bar back down I was sort of leaning over to make it touch the ground rather than getting my butt/the rest of me lower. The secondary dip was like a transition back into where I wanted to be to start my next lift I think.

The first one just looks much smoother overall. Now something else to think about… bring the butt down on the way down as well  Thanks!

a newborn calf. just arrived the night before.
I’m Milo of Kroton:

He would train in the off years by carrying a newborn calf on his back every day until the Olympics took place. By the time the events were to take place, he was carrying a four year old cow on his back. He carried the full-grown cow the length of the stadium, then proceeded to kill, roast, and eat it.

Ok, so Court and I were chatting this morning mostly re: what I have in front of me over the next 29 days. She wouldn’t do it.

So here’s the challenge:

Starting Monday Court is going to cut her carb intake to approximately 50g per day with 35g coming Post-Workout. The other 15g she can get from her green veggies.

50g Carbs = 200kcal 11%
75g fat = 675kcal (.5g x 135lb LBM estimated) 41%
202g Protein = 808kcal (1.5g x 135lb LBM estimated) 48%

Total Calories = 1683kcal

Her sports schedule includes 2 sessions of Volleyball (1.5hrs x 2) and 2 sessions of Dodgeball (1hr x 2).

We’ll add in 4 sessions of HIIT at 20 minutes per session (2 per week) and I’ll modify her current regime to include squats and bench press to measure any reduction in strength that occurs.

I will keep her lifting to 4 days/week as well.

Since she is weighing 155lbs, my estimate is that she’ll weigh 146-148lbs 10 days later. Maybe I am on drugs.

The worst that happens is it shocks her system enough to grow/gain strength when she adds carbs back in.

Given these numbers and her heigh, age, weight and activity level, I figure her BMR to be about 2350. 2350 x 10 days = 23500kcal. 1683kcal x 10 days = 16830 kcal. Doing the math, 23500-16830 = 6670kcal. 1lb loss is 3500kcal, so it should be just under 2lbs weight loss, but given her increase of water and lack of glucose, I suspect she will lose close to 5lbs of water weight giving her a weight loss of just under 7 lbs, or pretty damn close to 148.

I’m confident she’ll be under 148lbs if she adheres to this.

So Court…we gonna get some before and after pics? =D

Can I come over for dinner in 4 years for dinner? Either that or to worship you. Whichever you choose.

Ummm I’ll take them. Decide at the end if I want to share. I’ll share measurements and weight for sure.

I just saw my macro breakdown. Looks like I’ll be planning my 10 day diet this weekend

Oh and I have company doing it too. Running Guy is going to do it with me. His macros will obviously be different but Todd was gracious enough to do those as well.

I’ll get my training sessions and HIIT protocol later.

Game on.

Measurements would be interesting. Have you ever done anything this strict with your diet before?
pch2 wrote:

I will definitely take measurements and post at the beginning and then on the last day as well. Weigh-in and measurements will be done first thing Monday morning (Sept 29) and then on Thursday morning (Oct 9) which will be the morning of day 11.

As for the strict diet, I have, but nothing this calorie restrictive. Leading up to my half Todd gave me structure around my calorie totals and macro breakdowns and I followed it to a tee. My calories were much higher though and had a lot more carbs. I’ve never done such low carb before… even on my “low carb” days before my half I was still getting about 3x as many carbs. And then post-race I stuck to a lower carb diet for about 3 weeks where my non-training days I still got 100g.

I should be very pleasant company for Running Guy considering I’m currently experiencing (well almost over) the worst case of (earmuffs, boys) PMS that I have had in as long as I can remember. Generally my moods/cravings aren’t even noticeable but the past few days I have been CRANKY and super testy and impatient. Just ask Todd.

So he’ll go from seeing me bitchy and cranky due to horomones to seeing me bitchy and cranky due to low carbs. Good thing he’s hooked already and he’s doing it too  The two of us are going to figure out our menus for the 10 days this weekend. I’ll likely have the same thing for 3 days, then change it up a bit for the next 3 and suck it up for the final 4. I’m going to need to take stock of my supps too and discuss those with Todd.

This will be interesting!
