My next upper body session is going to rock. I’m determined. Why you ask? Because I got very constructive criticism from another T-Nationer that I really appreciate. And I’ll be damned if next beach season my arms don’t have the horseshoe!

What’s the horseshoe? I want one too!

ooo ooo I’ll take a pair. Sign me up too.
You guys are crazy. Certifiably insane. I like it

So another day, another training session. Last night was legs again. Yipee! You’ll notice I dropped my weight halfway through my sets of deadlifts. Todd came over and yelled at me to get my ass lower.

Which then resulted in some yelling back. Anyways, I struggled with this, so dropped the weight trying to make it feel ‘right’. I think I’ll video my lifts next week both how I had been doing it and how Todd says I should be doing it so I can at least see it and “see” the difference.

A. Deadlifts - 8x4 90s - 155, 155, 165, 165, 175x2 (this is where the yelling match was), 155, 155.
B. Lunges - 4x 5x5 90s - 30lbs
C1. Sumo Squat - 3x12 - 55lbs
C2. Lying Leg Curl - 3x12 - 60lbs
C3. Hyperextensions - 3x20 60s - BW

Biked, showered and officially got hooked on Heroes lol.

When I was DLing, there was a huge guy (HG) squatting next to me. The following conversation ensued:

HG: Wow. A girl deadlifting.
Me: Is that not allowed? (full of attitude obviously)
HG: Allowed?! It should be mandatory. F*ck all those fat skinny women over on the treadmills.
Me: Laughs

That conversation was fine, he then asked if I was into Powerlifting and I said I had hoped to get into it, would need to work hardcore on my upper body. He then got on my nerves a little as he started talking about all these programs and keeps saying after every one “Have you ever heard of that”… Uhh, yeah.

I do read up on it every now and again. I mean who HASN’T heard of West Barbell?

I told him I was going to google/wiki search SS because I heard that was THE best program around and the ONLY program that mentally challenged females should be using and see if that might help me. (Kidding, kidding).

Anyways, all in all, a pretty good session.

I love those kinds of conversations. I haven’t had many recently because I’m at a PL club so they kind of expect DLs and such.

When I first started at my current gym, I got lots of that sort of conversation. Usually doing DLs. Such as ‘wow. You do the hardest exercises’. My favourite was when a young guy asked after a set of pullups whether I was a gymnast. I kindly said no but in my head I’m thinking “yeah I on the middle aged mom olympic team. I totally rock.”

You should check out SS though. You may want to have a guy with you in case it’s too complex what with counting to five and all.

Okay seriously Ouroboro, your dry wit makes me crack up. I need to start making sure I’m not drinking or eating anything when reading your posts because it’s sure to land all over my keyboard… either that or I’ll choke.

I’ll be sure to come to you for advice when building my next program though. I’m not really sure where to find information on SS and you seem like a great resource

I took yesterday off, but will be doing horizontal tonight. In the meantime I have a few things to say:

  1. If you ever have to start a sentence with some variation of “I don’t mean to sound creepy, but…” or “I mean this in a non-creepy way…” you should either make good use of your backspace button, or if you’re saying this out loud, stop and firmly shut your mouth. You sound creepy. Qualifying it like that just makes it even more so. I’m going to think you’re a creep anyway if you finish that sentence, so why not just man-up and say it without the qualifier if you really must?

  2. The following people are being called out:

Sayjin… where is your new log? Get on it immediately. I have so few people to harrass on here on a regular basis and I miss it.

Szwarz… where is the log we’ve been speaking about for ages? I will beat you with my shoe next time I see you at the gym if you don’t start it before then. Either that or I’ll wipe you with Scottie’s sweat-drenched shirt.

Bartl… where the eff have you been? My log misses you. It told me last night.

So many dirty gems here that I dont even know where to start…

You’re sick… I meant my horitzontal push/pull routine at the gym.

And as far as my log missing Bartl, I meant my training log on T-Nation. I have conversations with inanimate objects all the time and there is NOTHING wrong with that. My mommy says I’m cool.

Are you kidding? Szwarz is just a lurker. That’s why he wears the hoodie’s at the gym all the time with the ball caps. So he can lurk.

lurk - verb (used without object)

  1. to lie or wait in concealment, as a person in ambush; remain in or around a place secretly or furtively.
  2. to go furtively; slink; steal.
  3. to exist unperceived or unsuspected.
  4. Chiefly Computers. to read or observe an ongoing discussion without participating in it, as in an Internet newsgroup.
    ??noun Australian Informal.
  5. an underhand scheme; dodge.
  6. an easy, somewhat lazy or unethical way of earning a living, performing a task, etc.
  7. a hideout.

I haven’t heard of West Barbell

None of the guys at my gym ever tell me I’m awesome because I deadlift. Last Tuesday I deadlifted and one told me I “sucked less than usual” after I finished my workout.

Speaking of women deadlifting, I went to a rec center with my little sister and tried to get her to learn to deadlift. She refused, but at least I got her into the “boys area” to do some upper back work.

Honestly, I think I’d rather have them tell me that I “sucked less than usual” than be all shocked and impressed by the fact that I was deadlifting.

Been a while since I’ve been here, but I hope you’re training is going well. I have two week of training to read up on. Plus the the cranky diary entries you make. Very cranky.

Nice avatar!

I’ve been really busy with a lot of school-search related things… I did hit the gym on Wednesday night for my horizontal push/pull. I don’t have my log with me so from the top of my head:

A. Bench - 4x8 - 65/65/65/75x6
B. BB Rows - 4x6 - 80lbs
C1. DB Flyes - 3x12 - 12.5lbs (I think?)
C2. Prone DB Rows - 3x12 - 20lbs
C3. Pushups - 3x12 - 12/12/10
D1. Skullcrushers - 2x15 - 20lbs
D2. Hammer curls - 2x15 - 12.5lbs

I did hammer curls instead of EZ bar curls because the gym was in absolute disarray and I couldn’t find any light enough EZ bars. I also felt good with the 75lbs on bench, but on the 7th rep, I totally lost it and couldn’t get it more than a few inches off my chest. This is where I always struggle. Would this be tricep strength perhaps?? Anyone?

Oh and yeah. I did skullcrushers and then drank protein. I’m so sexy.

I’m never cranky Barret… ever. Just ask the people that know me. I’m always nice and sweet  I haven’t pictured your head on the floor while deadlifting lately, maybe that’s why I don’t feel like I’m making progress… I’ll have to incorporate that into my next DL session again  Come visit more often. I enjoy your entertaining posts and your everchanging avatar!

I need to catch up a bit here:

My log misses you too. It tells me everyday. Wait, I’m not keeping a digital training log. What log are we talking about again?

My ‘edit’ to my training post didn’t show up. Grr.

I said I did some interval training/running with a boy after my horizontal workout (yes, cue dirty comments here). We did 30 minutes of 2 minute jog, 30 sec all out sprint. I was beating him through most of it, but he came from behind (again, dirty comments), and kicked my ass at the end. I’m scheduling a rematch soon.

Oh, that one is just way too easy. I just hope you had a good partner to help you with you “horizontal” session

You are a sick sick puppy (but I love ya anyways). I wish it was of the fun horizontal variety. THAT is so much better than feeling like a weak little girl while benching. But for the record, I did have a good partner (male) to help with the session…or at least the benching part. That same partner was the one that kicked my ass running. I’m too damn competitive to lose.

And as for your log…well… I could make many an inappropriate and mean comment back, but I will be the bigger person here and leave that one alone  Come visit me on here more often please? Thank you.

Where are you finding these boys to lift with? Are these boys you’ve always known or are you just magic like that?
pch2 wrote:

I’m just magic like that. hahaha.

No, these are guys I’ve met through the gym. The younger crowd of regulars from 18-25ish. This particular boy is part of the “Hurt Court when we do boy-chest/fun workouts” team. Only I like him better than the other one.

There’s a group of guys that I chat with pre/post workout. Some train hard, some hardly train, some spend hours there but see no results. There’s some eyecandy, some creeps, some that stare because I lift heavy, some that stare at the biceps/abzzzz in the mirrors. It’s a commercial gym and all the “regular” guys know each other at least to shoot the shit. As a result as soon as one of these guys I don’t know (ie. Stripper dude) see me talking to a regular, they see that as an invitation to begin conversation.

Also, this summer I’ve become slightly less bitchy/unapproachable looking while at the gym since I know more people there and have started training on occassion with some of them.

Ummm… Hello? I’m Todd… nice to meet you.

Slightly less?? That’s like saying this new Pope is slightly less Catholic.

LOL
