Reverse Hyper on Incline Bench

Just throwing this up here for anyone who is interested. I workout at a home gym and don’t have a Reverse Hyperextension machine. I am sure they are as wonderful as everyone explains but they take up space and cost $.

I do however have an incline bench and some bands. If you are in the same position but want to try a version of the reverse hyper then give the below examples a try.

If you do this, please record yourself and post the video so I can post it to FailArmy :joy:

Make sure you weigh down the front end of that bench buddy. IDK how much you weigh, but my 220lb fat ass is gonna tip almost all free benches if I try this. Especially with added weight + leverage arm (legs).

EDIT:
The band is a good idea, but I think this inhibits much of the resistance curve intended with reverse hypers. Still not a bad alternative… Just wear a helmet

When looking at those pictures I was thinking of all the ways my incline bench was about to kill me

Just put a board on your squat rack like Sam Hyde

Lol, don’t knock it until you rock it Andrew. My 225lb was was just fine with the bench your mileage may vary.

I might be able to get away with MY bench because it weighs like 150lbs, but the key here is a few points…

If weight of legs+added weight = more than downward force on front end of bench, I believe you will be both knocked and rocked lol.

@cyclonengineer don’t yell at me if my physics are off a bit

I mean, it’s possible I guess, all depends on how far out that rear foot is on a particular bench.
A pair of 45s on the front legs and one on the seat would help.

I know if i tried this the thing would flip and hit me in the back of head causing me to get coloring books for Christmas for the rest of my life.

But the band is pulling “Up” on the rear legs, teetereing the front of the bench “down.”

Can’t tell if sarcasm or not

This won’t push the front end down so much as not adding downward force to the back. I mean you’re welcome to try it though!

True, I guess looking at my bench it has a better distribution of weight than what’s shown in the diagram example. Having a higher incline would help put you over the center of the bench more but who knows it may mess up the movement at some point. My bench weighs 70lb for reference and no issues with it moving around.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to start shitting all over your thread. I’m glad this works for you! I just couldn’t not advise people to do this carefully lol.

I’ve done some REAL dumb shit on my smith machine trying to emulate a GHR and would strongly recommend against doing any of it lol.

I use a 50 gallon drum and it works pretty good.
My incline bench is a POS and not steady enough.

No problem I enjoyed the discussion. I will put DaveMc’s idea about using a board and see if that works better!
