Rest from Overdoing It

I went to hard at it the past 4 months, I did high intensity everyday with a manual labor job. I ended up throwing up during a heavy workout which made me question myself, as well as loss of libido and depression so I assumed I overtrained. It was all fine until school started and my stress levels went through the roof.

6’2" 212lb according to the electronic scale at work my bf is 8-10% (it bounces between weekly I think its just the variance of the machine)

Diet- I eat 4-5 shakes a day of 4-5whole eggs, 20g protein powder, 1 serving whole milk, 2 banana’s, and 1-2 servings PB. 180g fat, 240C, 232 P on average

Supplements- creatine, 1mg b-12, zma before bed, fish oil 3(900mg epa,600mg dha) per shake, and 20,000 iu vit d3
Training- Full body 1 set per body part till failure kept sets 5-10 reps.

I started resting 2 days ago and my joints are feeling million times better, my libido is becoming uncontrollable again, and im becoming motivated again. My real question is how long until I can get back to my game, and start improving again.

Feel free to ask for more information.

If you’ve just rested for 2 days and your joints feel a million times better, I’m starting to wonder what you’ve done earlier. Giving yourself 2 days off should be mandatory each week, if not, every 2nd week. As you are getting better already, I suggest you take 1 week completely off (do some walking/light stretching), then go back at it. But from now on you should take some days off each week, I promise you it won’t hurt. The key is thinking long term - you need to rest if you want to stay in this game and truly see your potential.

I would also stop going to failure. Do 2 sets instead, but keep some left in the tank.

If you’re feeling motivated and great again, then you’re good to go.

But if you wanted to, you can just take a week of light lifting to keep the body limber. Personally, I’ve never benefited from taking more than two days off. In fact, I feel worse if I go back to the gym after two or three days.

Thanks guys, im on 5 day’s off now and I tested and i’ve went up 4 pull ups on my max just from resting. I’m still sore, I work at a gym so I tend to over do it as I am allowed to lift while I work. My joints are still feeling even better. I did some rock climbing to test the waters too and I think i’m going to atleast take four more days. I tried to start that kettlebell swing challenge and did 500x60lb with the 5x(10/15/25/50) on friday and thats what sent me overboard.

As far as what I was doing before, I was depressed and used the gym as a scape goat for 4 months, I basically got addicted to lifting and worked through all the soreness and it caught up to me I suppose. Thing is my best gains have been from 7 a week workouts in the past but After this break I’m going to try to rest more like the majority of people and see how my body responds. My philosophy has always been eat enough healthy calories and i’ll recover haha. I suppose it has its limits in recovering aye. I’ll try the 5/2 work rest split once im back in my game.

Thanks insight is always grateful

I’ll try out the 2 sets high intensity not to failure as well. You think put my 12 repmax, and do 2 sets of 8 balls deep intensity will replicate the same growth without the joint recovery problem?
