Ok well i am trying to be a good boy and help my mother with the love of my heart…or should i say the love of the resistance band…
anyway i feel that my mother who is over 50 is really showing signs of poor health. She continually suffers from muscle pains due to i believe hip problems, she has diabetes and this is a major problem. She is currently on a so called wait loss diet that really doesnt seem to be working. And to top it off she does have alot of stress.
I feel that excericsing will improve everything even at her age. The problem is she cant really do any of the stuff i try to get her to do…lol not like bench press or anything…i basically wanted her to do some simple bodyweight excerises but that lucked out, then use the 2lb hand weights, but i felt they really didnt work for her.
So i have come to the conclusion that the resistance band would be great. Trouble is i really dont no anything about it, what workouts, how long, how hard. Does anyone know anything about resistance bands to help me with my predicament?
we can’t really say how long, how hard 'cause we don’t know your mom. bady of the bodyweight/light dumbell exercises you tried would be the same with resistance bands. it’s just a different type of resistance.
she could stand on one end and do curls, stand on the handles and do squats. whatever…
I’m not sure of her fitness level, but if other things haven’t worked like you’ve said, it seems like it’s not very high.
maybe you could help her by offering to go for walks with her. get some easy exercise and she’ll progress into bodyweight exercises. do you work out with her? make it your thing. even if you already go to the gym, I’m sure workingo ut with ehr wouldn’t put too much strain on you and you could motivate her and show her proper form. make it fun…
elitefts has a HUGE list of band exercises but in general like the above poster said pretty much anythiing you can do with other resistance various pushes pulls and leg stuff get creative and go look at that list should help
Bands might work better than dumbbells. At least you can get more variation with them.
One thing you need to make sure is that she uses enough intensity. For example, my father tried to start exercising and just didn’t put in enough effort. So I think thats the main problem with older people who start exercising, they just don’t do it with enough intensity to make a difference.
Working with her will certainly help her get started. Teach her what she needs to know and hopefully she will continue to exercise on her own.
