Yup! I mentioned your efforts and innate ability.

It’s not an innate ability. It’s was fear and disatisfaction with being a normal factory worker, which was what my father wanted be to be, after watching too many hollywood movies that drove me to work harder than anyone else because I believed I could suceed as long as there was opportunity. My only real innate ability is the inability to feel anxious, but it’s led to lots of good things and lots of bad ones. I nearly died because of driving recklesslously a long time ago and my wife has benned me from ever entering a casino lol.

You spoke about your dissatisfaction with your upbringing. My dad never forgave me for outdoing him financially. He wanted me to work in a factory like him. An honest day’s work or some shit like that. He’d never praise us for good grades but he’d beat the crap out of us for bad ones.

He gave me shit when I was studying, saying only crooks study this course, then he gave me sshit for changing career paths because I err.. I guess I wasted my time studyint to by a crook? Fuck, he never even forgave me for learning to play the guitar better than him when I was a teen.

The first time I ever saw him acting intimate with my mother was when he asked me to teach him how to use his smart phone in my 30s and I saw a message “Miss U” from my mother and I was feeling uneasy for a week like I had just walked into the room while my parents were having sex lol.

Some families just want their kids to grow up right and treat other people right while developing a sense of community that humans normally crave.

Much of it is this. Though I consider there’s more to it.

@unreal24278 I think when people on here talk to me about such matters they should take into account that I am extremely disappointed by how I was raised. No, I wasn’t physically abused, but I was heavily emotionally neglected and experienced household turmoil. I even think it is appropriate to say I was intellectually neglected considering had some important people taken serious interests in my intellectual and maybe even physical strengths I could’ve been a far more satisfied person, maybe even rich. That’s not me being arrogant; that’s me assessing myself and the past and my close long-time friends who don’t delude me agree.

I have faced I will always have an underlying disappointment in some people and myself no matter how satisfying my life is within a certain context. This is why I believe it is so damn crucial that no one or nothing screws with my children’s trajectory at what I consider the seriously crucial ages of twelve to seventeen. I believe this time frame is nearly all that seals the deal! Academic achieving, positive social interaction, important habits, getting an understanding of the world, all that! I’d even say positive interaction with the opposite sex at this age is important too, and I don’t mean sexual activity.

You see what I mean? This isn’t about intellect. This is more on an individual’s character. If you had lived my life, you’d be even WORSE OFF if what you described adversely affected your chance of success DESPITE you stating that you have above average intelligence.

You say you were "Intellectually neglected? My dad tried so hard to convince me I was not smart enough to make it anywhere else so I wouldn’t be rebellious and join him to work in his factory. he passively aggressively called me stupid for months.

You gotta understand this about Chinese culture. Intelligence isn’t respected unless you’re a fucking genius like Laozi. GRADES ARE because they lead to higher STATUS(see the Imperial Exams). That’s what you guys seem to get wrong.

It’s the OPPOSITE. An intelligent person without status is too smart to be trusted.

And I’m gonna be blunt here so please forgive me.

Years ago, my granduncle came to me to ask me to dissuade his son from signing up for a Commando Unit in the military. He couldn’t, but he knew it was worthless for a future career in the private sector and because he used to be a major and his son wouldn’t be able to handle the physical training. The kid was convinced the training would toughen him up and he’d adapt.

I refused, stating that I wouldn’t even be able to convince my own brother, who was his age at the time.

His son dropped out after a week.

My point is YOU wouldn’t be able to handle my life since you’ve written how prone to depression you were earlier in life. You may think I got touch because of my upbringing, but it’s more of I got tough BOTH because of my upbringing AND I was able to handle the shit.

I am very sure you wouldn’t be able to. You know what other kids who had a similar up bringing did? They joined gangs or went on drugs. Females would engage in gang bangs and become whores. Some were a lot fucking smarter than me.

And as you’ve stated, this isn’t about intelligence. This is about mental resilience. If you want to call that an innate “talent”, ok, but then I’d have to go further into why I developed it in another post.
