Reeds Log

I was very cautious going into this mornings press session. Between the busted up forearm and Ulnar Nerve pain I have not been having a very good past month with pressing have usually left in so much pain I was even more useless than normal. How ever Sam suggested trying Decline Bench so I tried. To my surprise I had barely any if at all pain and had a decent session this morning finally. Was very off considering Decline is something I have never done, not training press at all in a few weeks, and being pretty much scared of wanting to rip someone’s head off to make my arm feel better I was pretty off.

Decline Bench worked up to 275 for 2 sets of 5. Backed off to 225 for a set of 10.
Flat DB Press Very smooth and controlled: 40, 50, 60lbs all sets for 12.
Rope Face Pulls: 3 sets of 70 for 15
Hammer Curls: 3 sets of 30lbs for 10 reps.
DB Lying Extentions: 2 sets of 12.5lbs for 40 reps. Very light and controlled just to stretch and pump blood into my elbows.

Speed Day with Sam at TSF today. First time we have done Bench and Squats on same day and it was def different. But was a very good session. I stated slow just couldn’t get any pop out of anything and then all of a sudden everything just clicked and weight was flying.

Back Squats: 8 sets of 5 with 280 (65%)
Bench Press: 6 sets of 5 with 205 (65%)
Band Goodmornings: 3 sets of 20
Ab Table Crunch: 3 sets of 20
Standing Calve Raise: 3 sets of 20 with 115.

Bench Day at the Rush with my totally awesome, super hot, amazingly cool, super model banging sexy wife… had to say this she is right next to me.

Bench Press: 275 for 3 sets of 5, back down to 225 for 12
Wide Pulldown: 140 x 12, 160 x 12, 180 x 12, 200 x 10, 240 x 8, 260 x 8 strapped in
Hammer Curls: 35 for 2 sets of 10, 40 for 2 sets of 10
Nose Breakers: 95 for 3 sets of 12, 135 for 1 set of 8 I will NEVER do these again.

Trained put at TSF today. Haven’t gotten to Squat heavy in about 2 weeks so I figured I wanted to really over haul it today.

Reverse Band Squat Reloaded at top and 130lbs off at bottom
150x5
. 240x5
. 330x5
. 380x5
. 420x5
. 470x5
. 510x5. Huge PR and feel I had more in me.

Glute Ham Raise: 4 sets of 12
Calve Raise: 4 sets of 15 with 100lbs

Deadlift off a 4in Block: 500lbs for 3 sets of 3
No Touch Deadlift from Floor: 275 for 1 set of 10
. 285 for 2 sets of 10.
Lying Leg Raise: 4 sets of 20.

Bench at Rush

Bench Press: 245x 5, 255x 5, 265x 5, 275x 5, 225x 10
Incline DB Press: 40x 20, 50x 20, 60x15, 70x 10
Pulldowns: 160 x 5 x 12
Cable Rear Laterals: 15 per side x 5 x 15

Squat day with Sam and Kristi at TSF.

Foam Box Squats: Worked up to what was supposed to be a max 3 but, managed 4 with pretty solid form. Probably could have gotten a 5th rep but, I really didn’t want to have a grinder today. So I topped out with 420lbs for 4 with a belt only. This a big motivation for me as Box Squats are harder to perform in my opinion and 420 was my max single just a month and half ago.

Stiff Leg Deadlift:225 for 8, 225 for 10, 225 for 12, 225 for 15

Situp Table: 4 sets of 20

Heavy Press day with Kristi.

Really wanted to play safe with my elbow so I did incline bench to take some stress off them.

Incline Bench Press with Sling Shot: worked up to 280 for a,double and 300 for a easy single. Backed off to 185 for 13, 155 for 12 unequipped.

Wide Pulldowns: 140, 160, 180, 200 for 14-10. Then 220, 240, 260 for 10-5.

DB Row: 60, 80, 100 for 12. 120 for 20 strapped in.

Hammer Curl: 35 for 3 sets of 15.

Deadlift with Sam at the Rush with another shitty bar.

Deadlift off a 4in block: Worked up to 500 and pulled for a set of 4, set of 5 and then a PR set with 6.
Deadlift from floor: 315 for 3 sets of 5. Every rep was stopped just a few inches from the ground, paused, and then re-stood.
Lying Leg Lifts: 3 sets of 20.
Chest Supported Cable Row: 2 sets of 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1+ with 165. Only rest was how long took Sam to complete his set.

Hey, Reed, you are fucking awesome! I hit a 30 pound deadlift PR today, and it was an awesome lift. The only thing I could have done better was to hold it at lockout longer (don’t they give you a down command at a meet for the deadlift?) . I’ll post it later for you to see. :slight_smile:

Lol I don’t about all that but thanks man seriously. As for the down command yes they do other wise you would have alot of lifts cut short just for a bigger number. But its not like a timed hold once they see your hips are through and you have control you will get a down command almost instantly

Oh, it takes more out of your recovery for deadlifting? Is this because of you being stronger, or because of your build? (like louie simmons talks about) The most I’ve personally noticed from it is occasionally having it effect my grip strength for sunday’s ME day.

And yeah, good morning variations+heavy abs+squatting really favors my deadlift. The extra core strength makes the start of the pull even easier for me (I am already pretty fast off the floor) and also makes lockout easier.

Oh yeah I can Squat heavy almost to a max weekly and even have a nice volume day later in the week and be fine but, if I try pulling heavy more than once a week or even twice a month I am fried PRs stop and feel horrible on all lifts for a good 4 days. By heavy I mean a honest 90+% for say triples. Which is why most of my dead lifting stays around 80-90% but usually for decreased range of motion so its not as stressful on me. When pulling from the floor I hardly go over 405.

Well, I guess it is because of the differences in our leverages, and strength levels. I believe I am the model ‘long legged, long armed’ natural deadlifter.
