Hello, I am 47 yrs old and have been powerlifting competitively for about 25 years. I’m in the 242 weight class. I suffered a hamstring tear in my right leg about 6 months ago deadlifting (black and blue bruising). Recently, I have been training deadlifts with bands for about 6 weeks. Yesterday, I was on my second rep of 405 with bands when I felt a pop in my hamstring near the glutes on the same leg.
Would anybody be able to share their advice on recurring hamstring injuries and on recovery methods? I would like to hear about prevention, recovery methods, treatments, etc. Thanks!
You could get your posture checked out. 25 years of powerlifting and weighing in at 242. There’s a possibility you are in anterior pelvic tilt. This would give you a slightly excessive curve in your lumbar spine. This has the effect of shortening the hip flexors, slightly de-activating the glutes (Sore glute meds??)which would add stress to the hamstrings, and finally lengthen the hamstrings, putting them in an already stressed position. Just a thought. Check out 'Force Couples - the hips don’t lie on this site, by Mike Boyle i think. Awesome article. Just a thought, other than the usual give it more recovery options. Good Luck. Daz.
