Does the USAPL drug testing include recreational drugs?
Yes.
Any WADA affiliated sport organization tests for recreational drugs.
Sure it does, drug free is what they’re after.
The say they do, but every time I have been tested it was just for a steroid panel. To me that would tell me they do not test for Rec drugs. I would not know for sure though because I don’t use those either. If i were you I would not gamble with it .
Thanks guys. Also, is it true that even a small amount of caffeine is illegal? Is there anything in caffeine free Spike that is banned?

In some federations it is, I don’t know about USAPL.
I never knew this and I think it’s ridiculous. Just another reason I lift in the APF. Even though I don’t use any recreational drugs, it’s insulting to me that a powerlifting federation wants to act as a moral policeman.
I’m not sure how much morality is involved… I mean, if someone’s not on steroids but they just took some speed before lifting I think that’s a clear advantage.

I don’t think it has to do with morality as much as the IPF just trying to be consistant/standardized with WADA testing policies. I’d be willing to bet that many countries require testing to conform to WADA norms in order for a sport to recieve any funding.

Maybe I misunderstood his post, but there was a discussion about caffeine being banned in some feds before he posted.

I think you’re right. WADA, for better or worse, is the standard for drug-tested sport. Hasn’t NCAA more or less adopt WADA protocols?

You’re like the 100% RAW4LIFE guy who jumps in on a bench shirt thread. Don’t be that guy.

No, speed = amphetamine.
The poster I quoted said recreational drugs are prohibited and tested for because the federations are “morality police.” I gave an example (two if you read carefully) of a recreational drug that could greatly benefit a lifter.

My bad. For some reason, I initially read that as caffeine = speed
You can find the list of WADA prohibited substances on this page (Under the column on the right):
http://www.wada-ama.org/en/prohibitedlist.ch2
In S6 you can see:
“The following substances included in the 2009 Monitoring Program (bupropion, caffeine, phenylephrine, phenylpropanolamine, pipradol, pseudoephedrine, synephrine) are not considered as Prohibited Substances.”
While in S8 you see:
“Cannabinoids (e.g. hashish, marijuana) are prohibited.”
