I’M NEW TO THIS SITE, JUST LOOKING FOR OTHER RAW LIFTERS OUT THER TO TALK TO, ABOUT TRAINING/DIET/SUPPS. I COME FROM A ALL GEAR GYM, I LOVE DETROIT BARBELL- BUT I THINK TO GET THE MOST OUT OF MY BODY I NEED SOME REAL RAW LIFTERS IN MY EAR TO TAKE NEXT STEP. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT, NEW FRIENDS ALL THE BETTER.
Good to have you here.
I train and compete raw. I’m still chasing 1551 at 220 which is raw ‘elite’ by the only standards I’ve seen. I think and hope that less gear, and deep, walked-out squats are the future of powerlifting. It’s not meant as disrespect to how anyone else lifts, but it’s what I love and what I want to see thrive.
If there’s enough interest a raw powerlifting thread on here would be awesome. I don’t think we have one.
RRRRRRAAAAAAAAWWWWWWW
caps are fun, but they hurt my eyes
Raw and geared lifters train pretty much the same, so not sure what different ideas your going to get.

We do?
I’d say there are important differences. If you’re lifting without supportive gear there’s MUCH less need for short ROM work, band work, (and basically any kind of DE work,) box squatting, not to mention the hours upon hours most lifters who use gear actually spend getting used to and tweaking the gear.
If you want to be a good lifter in gear, especially more aggressive gear, you need to spend a lot of time in it.
I compete RAW as well. shoot me a PM.

If you’re going to talk training, I know I’d like it if it was public and not in a PM…I’m always looking for new info and points of view. Let us all in on the secrets you’re giving away!

Why wouldn’t you use bands, and box squats? They are both very good tools to help with the squat. You can do short rom, to help with sticking points you have in either lift. I do agree though they do spend more time learning gear, but for the most part their training is very similar.
I train powerlifting, never done equipped lifting tho.
If you want to get your raw lifts up your gonna have to do them, and heavy. Like 6-10 rep raw benching after shirted work or speed bench. Lots of shoulder and full range tricep work as assistance work.
For squat you could do the same thing, a set of 6-10 real heavy after your ME work or DE work just as assistance work would do wonders. And if I were you I would do all my deadlift training raw up until a few weeks before a meet so you could get used to the suite again.
Whats your current training look like? Im sure with a few minor tweeks you could make gains on both raw and equipped lifts without much of a problem.

Yeah box squats and bands are good. But for a raw lifter I think the squats should be done with the persons raw squat stance. The westside super wide box squats with sitting way back doesn’t have much carry over to raw lifting.
I’d like to see a thread get going for the raw guys.
I just began competing this year and am anxious for my next meet. Any little thing that’ll get my numbers up, I’ll take it.
I take it (from the pics you posted) you were competing in gear before?

Looks like a singlet, shoes and a t-shirt. Well, he’s also wearing a belt. Still seems like it falls under raw.
I didn’t realise Metal made a non-supportive suit. My bad.
First off, I think we should define raw. I believe we all would agree on no suits, shirts or wraps but what about belts? Not trying to start any huge debate but I’m just curious. I competed 2 months ago in a ‘raw’ meet but was allowed the use of a belt.

I think raw in this thread is considered gear that will not give you any direct carry over… Well it’s good to a new raw lifter on the boards. Rawdog I will give you any tips I can on the bench since I specialize on it
I think it would help us more if you told us how long you have been training for, your stat’s (Lifts, weight and height) and what your current training style is like and what progress you have made so far.

Hey Ramo I thought of that ever since I joined these boards. What I think what we could add to it is people telling what their weak point is/was for a certain lift and what they did to bring that weak point up or just increase the lift in general.
Hell yeah, a RAW thread.
I knew we were missing something.
Let the fun begin!
I’ll take part in a raw or unequipped thread but not ‘RRAAAWWW’ thread
I lift in BDFPA/WDFPF and have a 1416 total @198.
I do train equipped and my nxt comp will be my 1st equipped comp. For me there is no fundamental difference between training the two styles. Only different technique and assistance lift choices.

Lol… nice post.
I agree tho, when you’re talking single ply gear and raw, the training is VERY similar from what I’ve seen anyway.
I think everyone should train in the raw
…oh wait
