Race to 600 Squat and DL

I’m wouldn’t wear them to pull in unless your calf prevents you from getting down to the bar with a neutral spine, it’s just going to increase the distance you have to pull. On to of that, it’s not exactly comfortable if you’re used to flatter shoes - I’ve tried it and can’t keep my balance very well in heels.

Oly lifters wear them because it makes it easier to get into a deep squat for the catch, thus decreasing the distance they have to pull. The “first pull” (where the bring the bar from the floor to line up the second pull) is always significantly less than a max deadlift. I have no idea if, when they do heavy pulls as assistance, they wear Oly shoes. I would say they probably do.

I’ve also hit a 565 single ply squat in the gym, and if my first two attempts go well, I’ll be hitting 600 at the meet… but if everyone else here is squatting raw, that doesn’t really count for much.

Meh, some are geared, some are not.

you sonofabitch.

Congratulations brother[/quote]

Awesome work dude that’s a great meet

Working my way back into deads easy; have taken two months off.
135x3
225x3
315x3
405x2
465x1
500x1
520x1
strapless, beltless… last pull was easy. 600 by August 15th is my goal.

Totaled 1295 as a single-ply 198 in my first meet yesterday. I wish I hadn’t forgotten my camera, so I could share my squat video. I opened with an easy 490, then decided to go conservative because I was having trouble setting up in the monolift. I hit 530, then my setup all came together for the third attempt and I smoked 550. As fast as my third attempt moved, I might have 600 in me right now.

My bench was a miserable 275, and my deadlift (belt only, I hate pulling suited) was a disappointing 470.

My training partner had a good day and totaled 2045 as a 242 multi-ply. We both ended up making some mistakes that cost us pounds on our total.

Now we’re going to dedicate 6 weeks to squatting with every bar in the gym that isn’t straight, and I’m going to pound my upper back and build my injured shoulder back up.

If anyone wants to read a full meet report, I’ll post one later today.

I’m in for this…I’ve got a 100% Raw Meet coming up in Orlando at the end of October that might be a good opportunity to go for these…if not, then the goal is by the end of the year (along with a 400 bench)…

Hit a 525 squat a couple months ago, and recently hit my 545 deadlift goal I had been chasing for a while…

Squat has been struggling recently since I’m dieting and have changed my deadlift stance from sumo to conventional…I think the change hurt my squat a bit since I squat wide as hell and am not hitting those muscles as often anymore in my training…but deadlift is coming along well so I guess its a trade off

Hit 415x12 in DL on my 5’s week in 5-3-1 yesterday, which was a huge PR for me…

Lets get it on biznatches!

Nicely done

I resolved my squating issue I think…if you read my earlier posts about being born with a clubbed right foot (operated at birth, not the least bit hindering in my sports career), I have significant reduced flexibility which has been a trouble when dropping low for the squat. My right heal starts to come off. So today I tried something different which I hadn’t though, but significantly lowered the position off the bar on my back and it helped amazingly! I"m realy excited now to get back into a squat routine because I feel like i have it now. Shooting for 500 by end of August 14th with a deadlift at 600 by the same date. Current body weight 215, squat 430, deadlift 520.

Did you go from high-bar to low-bar, or from low-bar to lower-bar? Either way, good idea. Moving the bar lower makes your back a shorter lever, which means you can bend over a little more, which means your knees don’t have to travel forward as far, which means you don’t need as much ankle mobility.

I personally prefer to squat high-bar, to fight my old habit of turning a raw squat into a good-morning, but I move it a little lower on my back when I have my suit on, still not low-bar, though. I need to work on getting it even lower, because I know it’ll let me get more out of my suit, but I don’t think I have quite enough meat on my back yet for that to be stable.

I went from pretty damn high to low. Having it up for me turns it into much more of a good morning. I found that lowering it really almost made me feel more like I was doing a leg press… way more stable and solid of a foundation. Was somewhat awkward the first two sets, with holding it and placing it and all (not to mention a little uncomfortable because I was not used to weight on that area), but by my top three sets, it felt absolutely great. So much more power in that position… and I think you described the reason I feel that way perfectly. I also widened my stance a touch, just felt great. I’m excited again to work on my squat with this new found bar positioning. Kind of stupid I’ve been squating for 5 years without trying to move the bar around, but trying absolutely everything else

Got it. The dance afterwards was part of a dare. youtube search “move it like bernie.”

I have gotten it geared, last I maxed squat raw I got a slow 550, no idea where it is now, I hardly ever squat without the briefs at least, possible meet in July which I will do geared so I’m tryin to make the squat motion in gear second nature.

I’m in dammit. I have to fix my form, too rounded to finish the lift.

^^Damn dude that absolutely flew off the ground…I’m surprised you didn’t have enough momentum just from that to lock it out…it looked like you could have cleaned it! haha

Is that a deadlift suit?

Thanks, it’s the Titan Super Centurian suit. Great suit, I need to learn to use it. I have not pulled equipped in awhile, my form is crap. I can nail that weight if I can keep my chest up and hips low at the start. I’ll keep my progress up here

Cheater 604.5 today with metal king deadlifter , weight 208 am . Officially I’m taking 590, which was the bar weight , I’ve weighed my plates and the 12 45s weigh 14.5 lbs heavy .

Next week I’m scheduled for 600 or 605. For straight weight . I write down bar weight for prs . The actual weight is for my " I can say legitimately I pulled 3 x bodyweight thing .

Hit an easy 535x1 conventional deadlift today (sumo is my competition style).

Squatted 535x4 fairly easily with belt only on Monday. Going for 585 next Monday for a single (hit 575 in competition 3 weeks ago). Rugby training has slowed me down a bit, but if I can crush 585 I might go 600 the same workout and give it a whirl. I may just get this one bitches (too bad for my DL which still blows monkey balls)!
