Race to 5 Plate Deadlift

If you’re doing metric shoot for 227.5kg or 501 lbs. Thats what I’m hoping for.

I may as well jump in on this. 22 years old, best deadlift is 210kg/462lb in the under 82.5kg/181lb class. I also did an easy 175 x 10 recently.

What is 5 plates over there? 500lb? Here in New Zealand (metric system) it would be 484lb.

A 20kg plate/bar is about 44 lbs.
Standard plates here are 45 lbs. You lose about 16 lbs in metric with 5 plates.
5 plates is 495 lbs and maybe 500 lbs if you’re using heavy(2.5 lb) collars.

Awesome, thanks.

Cheers - 227.5 eh… Hmmm how convenient - that is the exact PB of my nemesis at the gym. Lately we have been doing deadlift for reps - he did 170kg x 10, I did 175 x 10, today he pulled a gruelling 180 x 10 and on Tuesday I will do 182.5 x 10 (and make it look easy.) He said he plans to do 185 x 10 in one month - so I guess I will be pulling 187.5 x 10 in a month.

I can’t do any high rep work due to my back injury. Triples are as much as I can go with any relatively heavy.

My best pull was 462 lbs, but it’s dropped off since then. So long as I get 450+ in 2 weeks, I should have a good shot at get 500 by the end of the year if I simply improve my ab/back strength.

Anyone have any opinions on using farmers as a tool for deadlift. I know its going to help my grip, as well as my upper back strength. Even my legs feel it from them. If deadlift is total body, then so are farmers. I hope it’ll work.

What about using Kroc rows? Kill the upper back, work the grip hard, I’ve heard several times they have good carryover to the deadlift. They might be a bit more targeted to the deadlift than Farmer’s walks.

When I have the chance, I do kroc rows actually. I haven’t had a chance this cycle, but maybe next cycle.

Honestly, they helped everything, bench, squat, and deadlift.

Very nice. Getting used to reps, I guess, huh?

Shit, looks like they’ll be going in my next cycle!

To an extent. I had an extra day of rest, and I was feeling excellent all day. I was ready to rip shit up. I haven’t had a day like that in a while.

Lucky you, I have to go buy an asjustable DB handle before I can start doing them again.

I love when that happens. Miss a day, and think “ah crap.” and it ends up probably being something you should have done in the first place. I dunno if you planned having an extra day or not, but… yeah.

I’m with you. Wanna do a dare, who pulls it first? I’m 16 years old.

You still haven’t bought a pair yet?

Buy these: http://www.amazon.com/Cap-Barbell-Olympic-20-Inch-Dumbbell/dp/B0010YOBB4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1243119019&sr=8-4

They’ll hole FOUR 25lbs plates per side. When you can do a 210 lbs DB row, come back to me and I’ll spend the time finding a bigger DB handle.

They are well made. I abuse mine a lot. Good price too.

Word of advice, get some collars you crank on, not just some crappy 2 dollar clamps that everyone has. You know the ones that squeeze together to release its grip from the bar. You’ll be happy you did it.

I believe, that these will hold more plates. http://www6.mailordercentral.com/ironmind/prodinfo.asp?number=1224
They don’t take 50mm plates though… What a shame.

I am 18, I have been training dl for about 6 months. My personal best is 365x5 which according to those 1rm calculators puts me right at about 400. I just started 531 and I would like to break 500 by the end of next year, I don’t turn 20 until 2011. [/quote]

Don’t believe them calculators. I’ve done 8x374lb pretty easily some time ago, but couldn’t do near what tohse calculators told me. I’ve been doing only singles for some time now.

Jonatan-shg, that’s a huge DB handle. I honestly can’t see the use in though. I doubt there’s anyone even on the forum, if anyone at all who could load that handle to its max or anywhere near it.

Synth - I’ll try to be the first to do so.
Gotta have some goal.

THe shipping was 25$, I can’t afford that right now. It’ll have to wait.

best collars ive ever used in my life are these velcro ones. the have a metal loop too and you just slide the velcro through and tighten however much you want, really only work well with a lot of space to use though, fyi.
