I got 205 x 4 today. Focusing on good form but probably not as low as you though. 315 feels so far away. When are you hoping to get 315 on squat? How do you like your new shoes? I just got a pair of Chuck Taylor slims and like them better than my old New Balance cross training shoes.[/quote]
-Congrats on the 205 x 4! My third rep was so stuck and a grind from the bottom up I didn’t bother to try another rep. God knows I’ve gotten stapled enough times.
-I literally cannot go any lower… unless I develop holes in my calves for my hamstrings to pass through! This is something I’ve been working on for most of 2011.
-315 is closer than you think. My long term goal is 495 for the squat, so 315 is much closer than 495. I find it helpful to give yourself small goals to hit along the way.
495 - Long Term Goal
315 - Short Term Goal (hence this thread)
295 - Milestone (I’ve deadlifted this so this would be important to me)
275 - Milestone (2 plates and a quarter!)
245 - Milestone (My old parallel squat max)
225 - Milestone (2 plates)
205 - Milestone (bodyweight)
185 - Milestone (To me this is basically like an untranined/weak squat so when I was reworking my form on the day of the 205 x 3 I started from here)
-When are you hoping to get 315 on squat?
Tough question. If I was in a hurry like I was before and didn’t care about form, I could probably get it in a couple of months.
I’m a different beast now, though. I’d rather take longer to hit 315, for reps, with excellent form, than hit it once, questionably, with shitty form.
My gym record has only 4 guys over 315 posted for ATG… I’d love to be the fifth.
-How do you like your new shoes?
Very much. They really make a difference for me as a taller dude, and flexibility has always been an issue for me (a couple of work-related back injuries halted my training for too long). They are no joke, all it takes is one set to feel the difference. Expensive? Yes, but I hear they last a lifetime (since all you wear them for is squatting!)

I used the Chucks all the time before and they allowed me to squat to parallel (as long as I took a sumo stance). Obviously I wasn’t happy about that which is why I bought the adistars.
I still use them on my other training days (except bench) and they are great.
I hate New Balance shoes, and most cross trainers. My first training partner was always in some kind of pain related to his damn NB. Good luck squatting in those! I’m glad you’ve moved onto the Chucks.
My next squat workout will be the 21st. Keep up the hard work!!
