R.I.P Nasser El Sonbaty

a guy who openly talked about his usage of drugs and how full of shit bodybuilding is. Really admired this guy for dispelling the myths and telling it how it is. Sad to see people covering for the effect of drugs once again…keep telling yourself its healthy lol

if only he got his blood panels checked and did some SS cardio he would have been fine right

Damn shame all these guys dying so young.[/quote]

you fucking youngsters how can you never have heard of Nasser before!

Not meaning this to be a controversial Q, but do you think that some of the younger competitors (e.g. Kai, Evan Centropani, etc.) would look at this and other similar early passings and reevaluate their BBing plans? Maybe even just in terms of how long they plan to have a career in it? Or is it a “this is what you sign up for” sort of thing?

i feel like bodybuilders these days are far more in tune with things like their diets and support supplements (in addition to health indicators), than competitors of decades past.

we know far more about the human body today, and modern medicine has progressed dramatically.

that being said… it still is really really unhealthy to be as big as those guys are, and to use the amounts of drugs that they use.

i think most would be pretty bitter if they were in Nasser’s shoes

imo probably not

at this stage they are serious drug addicts

why the fuck is jay making a comeback? for the love of the game? its likely going to kill him sooner or later

just look at the size of kai in that recent guest pose

that arab doing the NY is now apparently 320 ripped at 5’10 9 weeks out

the sport is a mess and that’s the truth

Markus Ruhl must be getting a knock from the Reaper soon enough

this stuff will continue imo just think about many of the top guys:

Dex is absolutely huge for his tiny frame and ripped and doing show after show after show even now
look at Branch’s fucked up face
Jay’s pointless comeback and facial growth
Ronnie is clearly still running high doses
Markus Ruhl still huge
then there’s all the guys below that level

Loads more of these guys will be seriously ill and or die over the next 10-15 years

Dorian destroyed him in rear poses

And yeah look at their arms

ok Dorian’s are shit

but Nasser’s are full of oil so that’s a bunch of bullshit too

It’s just painful looking at dorian’s biceps that Olympia

what evidence is there of this at the top level?

i struggle to believe that Kai is more dilligent than the guys back then (90s) with regards to health

same with Phil who does not look like a human being in many off season pictures

branch and jay look like monumental abusers

the most hyped new guy for the NY is that young arab at 320 5’10 ripped - this alone indicates how insane his regime must be

aaron clarke looks like a man in his 40s despite being in his early 20s

that’s covered most of the recent top guys and a couple of hyped up and comers

if anything the last 5-10 years is worse than the 90s imo

(btw not looking for a fight over this, just some lively debate!)

apparently he was also a very friendly guy who cared a great deal for his fans… and was always very approachable and willing to answer questions…

unlike others during his era like Levrone or before like Ferrigno

I’d heard the name but never done any research into the actual man himself.

I have to admit, I don’t actually follow the sport of bodybuilding all that closely, let alone stuff from other eras.

fair enough

although i do find it strange that you would juice go to the gym and post on a BB forum and them not know/be interested in the sport more

obviously free to do what you want lol just find it a bit strange that you wouldnt

idk, but i wouldnt be surprised if back in the 90s they didnt pay as close attention to things like blood pressure, hematocrit, homocysteine etc…

you saw that video with ronnie coleman and his tacklebox full of support and health supplements, and his bottles of prescription support drugs.

while the current top guys abuse drugs worse than the guys of the 90s, they are undoubtedly on tons of support supplements.

i worry about the less successful guys who use every penny they have to buy PED’s and food but forgo the support supplements to save money

yeah, I can see why it would seem like a contradiction, I am just a lot more interested in my own physique than anyone else’s, lol, I’m so self absorbed! I’m certainly not DISinterested in the sport; I appreciate the work that goes in to build a physique, and I’m fascinated by what people do during contest prep.

I just don’t think I would ever go to an actual bodybuilding show. I’m definitely a lot more into it now than I used to be thanks to posting here and on some other hardcore boards (I don’t generally post on those though, just lurk).

I don’t wanna talk any real negativity about the deceased, but in reference to the Nasser/Yates shot; Even before the injury, Yates didn’t have the best biceps, but damn could Nasser have inflated his anymore? -lol.

Not sure which Olympia in particular, but I do remember him being the only competitor who really gave Yates pause in the front shots. Side and back poses really told a different story though.
