Quest For a 600lb Deadlift!

So who’s in!?!?

My current best is 515.

I recently just barely missed 545 at the knees for what would have been a triple bodyweight pull but I’m certain I’ll have it next time.

So this is going to take a while, but feel free to join in and post routines, techniques, PRs, motivational videos, or just to schmooze about deadlift stuff in general.

how is there not already one of these? Either way Im still in cuz these are my favorite threads. I haven’t been able to pull at all lately (home gym) but my best is 515 as well. Ill race ya!

Sure!

Hell yea,im in too.

In best so far is 530

im in, latest was 550 for 5

Ill give it a go, I just pulled 500 yesterday at a competition and it seemed easier than I thought it would.

What is your best pull? 550 for 5 is good bro you should be pulling 600+ already, I pull low-mid 600’s and am not sure if I would be comfortable doing 550x5 lol. I usually do doubles and singles though so I hate anything for 5.

Btw there is already a race to 600, and 700 thread but mostly from members that do not post as much. Post videos of progress an perhaps members can help in tweaking

I looked for them in a search and couldn’t find them and I think they were races or something like that. Anyway, those threads are several pages back and seem to have run their course so that’s why I started a new one.

I do think the video idea is a good one. I’ll start.

start at 35s

That’s my 515. I know it’s awful. It looks more like a rounded back stiff legged deadlift than a real one and I’m working hard on fixing that and have been making progress.

Here’s 495 10 weeks later:

Still not great, but much better and 96% of the old max so I now I’m going in the right direction.

At sub 85% I can maintain my form and have done video checks on this site to insure that. So that leads me to believe the issue is muscular.

I really worked on the start portion of the deadlift by focusing on form with lighter weights and building the pull with narrow stance squats, front squats, and the occasional goodmorning to maintain the back strength I already have.

I’m trying to build my hips and low back up now in addition to my quads because I think my back is getting rounded from my body trying to shorten my back because my hips and low back can’t handle the lever so it becomes a leg and thoracic extension instead of a leg and hip extension movement.

This is why some lifters do not succeed with Sheiko (which I am a big fan of and have trained in the past as well as train with a top 3 ranked all time lifter who used Sheiko the majority of his career). Point= your form with 50-90 even 95% can be drastically different than your 96+ Hence why some people like Ben Rice will add maximal level singles at the end of their Sheiko cycles.

So basically, yeah I completely agree the 80-85% range has its place in pulling, but your form will definitely break down differently in that range compared to your maximal effort range. Your pull technique isnt horrible or anything though. You do push your hips through late though, a habit I have as well :frowning:

last time i maxed it was 580 (in competition) will probably max out again at the end of the year, i never max out or go for singles in training only at meets.

Interesting, one of those weirdos that reps so close to their max.

Yeah I’m in.
Haven’t maxed this year but last October I pulled 230kg (507) x 1, conventional with chalk.
Not sure when I will test next, but keen to follow progress of other people at similar levels.

I remember you from my 495lb DL thread, good to see you in this one too! I look forward to seeing you in the next 700 pull thread as well when we get there, 'cause you know it’s only inevitable!

im in, got 515 in january. havent been able to do anything heavy at all for the past six months, since the canadians kicked me out and ive been back in my little box under my parents flat in london with about 150kg and a 5ft standard bar.

i think im still getting stronger though, and my form is a thousand times better for not being able to get near a heavy bar. my squats suffering though.

see you at 600

Cheers bro!
Haha I like your attitude. Hopefully the internet is still in fashion by the time I’m gunning for 700.
See you at mega-strength junction.

I’m in. Been at 525 for a looong time.

You’re already done bozo. You should be able to pull closer to 650 if you can actually do that.
