Push Ups Everyday?

Would it be beneficial to do push ups every day? If so, does anybody have any push up programs?

Only if you have no access to weights, are in solitary confinement in jail, are on a mission of spreading the word of Jesus in Haiti.

Otherwise there really is no reason to just do push ups, Oh yea also unless you are 70 years old then yes that is a good workout.

Usually what happens here, is for guys that are clueless to try & be funny. Most times it’s a fail.

As for your question, yes, it is beneficial & will increase upper body strength.

I had a link attached. Looks like it’s been taken down I guess.

Google onehundredpushups. Seems to be pretty informative.

I got it before they took it down. Thanks!

Lol In case you were lost this is over 35 section.

Not the beginners, I can link that if you need me to.

I understand that it is the ‘Over 35’ forum. However, your response was not what I would call a over 35 answer to the man’s question. Possibly, it is you, who is in the wrong forum. May I direct you to the ‘Crossfit’ forum?

Nice.

My response was tongue in cheek.

I believe I have been here a tad bit longer than you. Are you having a bad day? Are you trying to make a love connection and white knight this OP?

Sorry but I would not recommend any same movement daily for long term success.

And fundamentally my original response still stands.

My question is what is your over all goal? general fitness or more?

For some people a good form pushup is too taxing. For some people it’s way too easy. Any exercise that is taxing for you will require recovery and probably isn’t a good candidate for doing every day.

However, the nice thing about pushups is they are VERY scaleable. You can make them easier (by dropping knees to the floor, putting hands on raised platform etc). You can make them harder by using resistance bands, explosive pushups, single arm pushups, handstand pushups…the sky is the limit!

Anyone can do them every day (at an appropriate level) if that’s what they want to do. I think for many people it’s a very good idea to do the basic bodyweight movements every day at a level that’s very comfortable for you (conditioning and strengthening the neural pathways at the same time). Then if you want to use those same bodyweight exercises to build extreme strength load them up with chains, resistance bands etc. Do plyometric pushups for power. Use TRX or gymnastic rings to make them harder. Introduce slight variations - different body angles, diamond pushups, wide pushups, hands out in front, hands further back, typewriter pushups, archer pushups, one hand on a raised platform…

According to an article published recently by Bret Contreras, recent research has shown that band resisted pushups produce the same level of muscle activation as bench press, and that you can improve your bench press by doing band resisted pushups. When you consider that the pushup is a much better exercise for you (in terms of muscle balance/joint safety etc) then I think it’s an excellent choice!

But before deciding how to do those pushups you need to decide what your goals are. What do you want to achieve?

My Coach is close to 40 years old and he told me that, unless there are injuries in the equation, the push up is the one upper body movement that people can do daily.

He does so and he can rock strict form one arm push ups (feet shoulder width apart), feet elevated one arm push ups while holding a db in the free hand, one arm rollouts holding db in the free hand.

He says that some days, his push up workout will be as easy as leaning against the back of his sofa during commercial breaks. It’s the CUMULATIVE volume of safe training that over time that yields results. In other words, don’t grind out ugly reps if you plan to do this daily and don’t unnecessarily fatigue yourself so your other workouts suffer.

Here’s a good article and plan on that topic: PLP: The 60-Day Challenge

Maybe we should ask the wise old sage one, whose been here longer then dirt if this passes muster?

You can do push-ups every day, I did them every day for years in the Army (often more than I wanted) while lifting weights with no negative side effects (except awesomeness). The real question is what is your goal? If you are so inclined you can do bodyweight only stuff everyday and get in great shape, there are literally hundreds of varieties of push-ups (regular, hindu, handstand etc), pull-ups (narrow grip, wide grip, hands facing, alternate, one arm…), squats , sprints, burpees and on and on that you can do with little or no equipment at all so rock on.

Are you talking to someone specific? Are you trying to make a point?

If you are it is failing.

If you are trolling you are failing at that also.

Shugart at least has a point.

Come on Ronan grow a pair and step up.

I love you man…

Lol

Love you to big guy.

Since this thread is pretty much fucking retarded.

How is the shoulder holding up?

The word “butthurt” was not used.

No stupid memes (cute animal pics are not memes, stupid cartoons count as doubly stupid memes) were employed.

I’d say both fighters were winners; men, back to your corners!
