Push Ups? I mean I do them but like a program centered on push ups?

Shit why dont we do a program around calf raises.

How many variations of calf raises can we do?

Come on somebody has a link.

Some old geezer named Dan John summed it up best -for a well-rounded program you need a push, a pull, a squat, a hip hinge, and a loaded carry.

Well-rounded is especially important for old farts.

Standing calf raises.

Seated calf raises.

Calf raises with a loaded barbell on your back, whatever the fuck those are called.

Calf raises with dumbbells hanging at your sides, whatever the fuck those are called.

Calf raises with dumbbells held in the air, whatever the fuck those are called.

Calf raises with a loaded trap bar, whatever the fuck those are called.

Calf raises using the bench press machine, whatever the fuck those are called.

Calf raises combined with farmers carries, whatever the fuck those are called.

Calf raises at a max effort deadlift lockout, whatever the fuck those are called.

Calf raises with some other machine in my gym that I’ve never used, sort of like a horizontal leg press, whatever the fuck those are called.

Calf raises with my fat ass sitting on your shoulders, whatever the fuck those are called.

You could climb into a tiny fucking box and do calf raises using tension in the rest of your body pushing against the tiny fucking box as resistance, whatever the fuck those are called.

Calf raises with your feet in yoga/stretching straps and your arms pulling upwards for resistance, whatever the fuck those are called.

Lay on your back and stick your feet in the air and have college cheerleaders sit on your feet and calf raise the cheerleaders, which is probably the best kind of calf raise.

That’s all I can think up.

Doesn’t sound like the OP wanted a program centered around push ups but was merely asking if it was ok to do them daily.

And the people who were in favor - for the most part - sounded like they were cool with doing them as a part of a comprehensive program.

This article seems pretty legit PLP: The 60-Day Challenge

Good read and thanks for that.

I was put on a push up program that was similar, only mine started on an easy incline. That +1 rep increment does work and the way my program was designed, it did not negatively effect weight room performance and results.

The best way I can put it is the fitness sneaks up on you.

EDIT: Apologies to Chris Shugart; looks like he also posted the same link earlier.

Ah, bros, this is the O35 forum. OP who started this thread is 39. The advice you give someone in their 20s will differ from the advice you give someone in their 30s, 40s, etc., D-Uh. Unless OP is a special snowflake of course, in which case he needs no advice and should do whatever 'da fuque he wants.

No worries. All in good fun. I’m not exactly going to demand pistols at dawn over some internet shenanigans.

I just think the OP had a legit question and wanted to give my 2 cents.

Here’s my take.

My Coach is approximately the same age as the OP and he’s proof positive the OP’s question has merit. His universe doesn’t revolve around the push up but his ability to intelligently incorporate it into his program as well as mine and others has yielded positive results. I’ll take that any day.

I’m not over 35 but eventually I’ll be there. So I can use some of the threads here as cautionary tales.

Here is the thing you are missing. Ronan takes a shot at me over the changes I have made in my programming over the last few years. I am old broken and now am trying to live longer and healthier.

When you step back and look, realistically I should be the one actually promoting the OP. I have been doing circuit training type training (yes some cross fit) for the past 3-4 years.

I still would not promote doing an exercise daily just my .02 and the way the question was asked was the reason I answered the way I did.

Was it crass and tongue in cheek? Yes

Is Ronan a lurker douche bag? Yes

Take it easy big boi. For someone who is so “tongue in cheek” about this thread, you sure are taking some things personally. Lighten your old ass up and get to the nearest box, asap.

I don’t believe I took a shot at your training. I took a shot at your non-existent humor.

0_o I am not in any way upset sir. The paramedic who up and quit on me this week and left me with an open spot to fill upsets me. Exxon keeps changing the scope of service of the clinic I set up at their facility upsets me. The fact that Dallas didnt fix their Defense this year AGAIN upsets me. But you no way.

You did take a shot at the cross fit thing go back and look at your second post. But that didnt upset me. I just find it funny that you have NEVER posted in this section, you rarely post and I will not look at your HUB but do you even lift? Then you come in riding a white horse to defend the OP on something again he needed to clarify on his original question.

This section has a lot of men who come in looking for validation of what they want to do in regards to health and fitness. Such as this. They do not want to do the hard work, they dont want to lose weight, they do not want to “get to big” by lifting weights.

So I say again I stand by my statement. And Bulldog while being more politically correct is trying to get the OP to do more than tip his toe in the water.

While my approach may be more blunt, fuck it is this a site for grown fucking men or Goddamn snowflake mother fuckers who just want to have their egos stroked?

… unless there are injuries in the equation, the push up is the one upper body movement that people can do daily. [/quote]
The OP has three previous posts mentioning shoulder tendonitis and/or other shoulder injuries.

So, doing push-ups everyday is pretty much the last thing he needs.

FWIW, I’ll be 35 at the end of next month, so I don’t feel all that out of place in here, but the smell of Gold Bond and Michelob will take some getting used to.
