I was deadlifting last night and while I was still warming up I got to 265 and on the 5th rep my right leg buckled a little bit and then my right side, back and ass, just pulled. I could barely get outta bed this morning, I was so depressed I didn’t get to finish my back workout last night and now I’m thinking I wont be able to squat tomorrow night. This fucking sucks.
Anyone else ever pull just your right side muscles in your lower back/ass? How long did it take to heel and did you do anything to speed up the process?
Yeah, I have. Weird thing is I don’t know how it happened. It may have been from doing landmines, but it was light and didn’t feel anything at the time it happened.
I’ve been training for years and this is the craziest injury I’ve had and the longest lasting. Right now it’s been 3 months. I’ve done everything I know for rehab, stopped lifting, popped Advil tablets like candy, etc., to no avail.
Don’t make the mistake of trying to train around it. This is what I did. Oh, I felt great while I was training. The next day it was back all over again. If you load up on anti-inflammatory pills it will mask the pain and injury that you have.
After trying and doing it all for recovery and rehab I have just concluded that I will not lift again until I feel absolutely no pain or discomfort anywhere in the right glute/hip area. These are large muscle groups and sometimes they take a long time to heal up. I finally told my doctor about it today and he wants me to go to physical therapy and also have acupuncture. At this point I will try anything. I just want to start training again so I’ll do whatever it takes.
Stay out of the gym until you are absolutely sure you have healed up. If you rush you will just set yourself further back.
It could be more serious than a “Pulled” muscle. When a disc herniates, muscles immediately cramp and tighten around the vertebres in order to provide better support in the region.
See a Dr. if you can’t get out of bed.
About three weeks ago I pulled my right ass muscle/lower right back. It didn’t twinge all of a sudden so I’m not sure if I did it squatting or deadlifting.
Stretching my glutes/hamstrings helps the pain ease and now I’m wearing a belt for the first time in my life when I go over 400 on DLs and 225 on squats. The belt has mitigated the pain.

Thanks for the advice. It wasn’t that bad today, hopefully it keeps getting better, so Im hoping it was just a pulled muscle but if the pain persists Ill go see a doctor. I’m taking this week off in hopes that I wont aggravate it further.

Yes, I am definitely going out and buying a belt after this incident. I was planning on doing it earlier but kept putting it off. Now I am dead set on going out and getting one.
