Pull Throughs

Anyone with experience doing pull throughs? I just started these last week and the pain in my lower back area has me concerned that maybe I am not doing them right.

I use a low pulley w/ a triceps rope attachment, grab it so that it’s about 6 to 8 inches behind me, stick my hands between my legs and then push up w/ my legs/hams. I looked at the example on Dave Tate’s 8 keys article and I think I have the form right. Any input would be appreciated.

Are you doing them round back sounds like it if really hitting the low back or arched. Try and really sit BACK into them and drive the hips through squeeze your ass cheeks, try different footing as well from wide to narrow.

If doing round back then go lower weight get the feel it will hit the low back I like suing them arched and to really activate the glutes again its more a sitting back

I do these as a light, explosive movement. I pull the cable out a ways- 3-4 steps. I push my hips back a bit and let the weight pull me way under and then I rebound, driving hard off my heels.

I use fairly light weight- something I can get for 12-15 reps. I feel like it stretches my back- kind of of like reverse hypers. But I can’t say I ever felt like I was using my back to lift the weight. As with reverse hypers, I think it should be mostly hitting your glutes and hams.

good sound advice from both posters, really like to do them with a kettle ball, we have a great range of them from little bastards to big bastards, if u get a chance try it with the KB’s,I like them heaps better than the cable and don’t forgot to drive through with the hips.
