i was benching the other day and when i put on like 145 which is usually light for me it was stressin out my chest like crazy. This is the third time my chest felt like it was ripping. like my tris were okay but not my chest. ANd i only bench 2 a week.
Does anyone know this problem and what should i do. I have been lifting for 4 months and this never had happened to me until 2 weeks ago.
How old are you? How often do you dip and do flys? Your timing and frequency could be inhibiting recovery. And if you’re young sometimes growth and lifting cause pain in the sternum area of the chest.
A little time off from a particular movement allows recovery, and you can shift your focus to other movements for a couple weeks, and come back stronger than before when you’re close to 100%.

im 15 and i liftied for 4 months. When i lift now somehow my chest get stressed and thats what affects my lifting. If my chest didnt stress or strain the bench press would be so much easier. THis thing started 3 weeks ago.

Maybe its because youre doing it properly, elevating you chest above your shoulders, allowing all the pressure to go to your chest, as before it was going 2 ur triceps. It is actually a good thing.

Still it is messing me up, i dont know why but im gonna prolly not lift for a week and come back stronger.[/quote]
Well, a few weeks back, i was stuck on a plateau, i wasnt able to gain muscle or strength. I took 2 days off (normally i recover overnight, no steroids, but i take an extra night as ‘insurance’) and i was able to add 10lb to my bench with the same amount of reps, another 2 days off, 10lb extra. I guess all i needed was a bit of sleep. Try sleeping more, use less weights. I dont cross 135 but i expand and raise my chest.
Sleeping a lot and eating big will speed up your recovery. I would take a break for a week or two and work on your pulling (deadlifts/rows/chins) in place of bench.
I would also work your triceps hard during this week or two, get used to using and activating them to help your bench as well. Skullcrushers, overhead extensions, and cable extensions are all decent triceps isolation exercises.
