Preventing Muscle Strains?

I’m recovering my latest back strain. This has happened to me before and usually sidelines my workouts for at least 1 week. It’s possible I didn’t warm up enough, but I’m not sure. I did some jumping jacks, worked with an empty olympic bar for about 20 reps for the muscle groups I’d be working that day(back). Then I’d start out light and work my way up to my working set.

The wierd part is that I strained probably my lat during my second exercise. So I did about 5x5 of bent rows, then moved to T-bar rows. After I got up to my first work set, my lat/lower trap strained/pulled.

I woulda thought if I didnt warm up properly, I would felt the effects during my first exercise.

I’m definately hydrated and I start my SWF about 15 minutes pre-workout, so I should be covered there.

Do you guys think I just need a more extensive warmup? Maybe throw some pushups and chins or a complex to get my body temp up more?

PS - Everytime I open the T-Nation page, I’m logged out. Is there an IE setting or something I don’t have or is there a setting on T-Nation for auto-login?

Your warmup seems pretty good to me. Because of that I would examine your form. Also, diet does play a part. I was plagued with inflamation and injuries until I started taking Flameout. Can’t hurt.

You could have some muscle imbalances as well that are throwing you off but I can’t help you there.

Yeah, I can see one lat is larger than the other. Not glaringly larger, or maybe I just notice it cuz I stare in the mirror too much. I think that was from swimming days. But I’m not sure how to correct that.

More DB work for rows?
