Pretty Sick of People Today

Yes! Yes that’s it! Those that exercise are the new Jews!

So…

You’re tough–neigh, ALPHA–for telling us about your workout “sesh” in front of all these people, but you’re NOT tough enough to ignore comments from “ignorant, lazy/lecherous bastards” ? So like, you ALPHA or not, brah?

Come on, dude. Learn some Verbal Judo. (seriously, look it up)

This thread is like the snobby hot chick telling everyone in a backhanded way how hot she is because several “ugly, dorky” guys walked up to her annoying her with bullshit convo, wanting to get in her pants. Yeah, we get it. You like to work out.

Brah.

Next time, if these comments really bug you, just tell them you’re training for a charity triathlon for the Make a Wish Foundation. Then, go plant a few trees and flirt with some grannies to earn back some karma.

This is actually really good advice. And it’s funny too. When you are done with Make a Wish, you can move on to Habitat for Humanity or AIDS.

I mentioned that I have three over-weight sister-in-laws. Funny story. Last time we were on vacation they were gossiping about a family friend who has an amazing body. Big surprise, she also has a lot of healthy habits with regards to eating and regular exercise. The sister-in-laws were talking about how she “works out all the time and just had her boobs done …because she’s just WAY into her body.”

It struck me as funny because these women spend lots of time and money getting their nails done, expensive hair dye/cuts, and buying clothes. Somehow they don’t see that those things might also make them “WAY into their bodies”, just in a different way. Anyway, classic example of some sour grapes there. We don’t have something… insert whatever it is here…so we’ll talk like it’s something that is undesirable, a vice, or find other reasons to conclude that the person who has it is probably unhappy or messed up in some way.

I get that. And this, they, my irritation with people in general and everything else that made me decide to make this post isn’t going to stop me from loading up the prowler and my other sled and hitting that little field for another “sesh” or whatever this week.

And some of the responses here have been pretty thought provoking too. I was overweight for a decade, can I treat a beer gut as a character flaw now? The answer no, I can’t. I’m the same guy I was then, I can just lift more, move around a bit better and push a prowler. Apparently I’ve even held on to many of my old insecurities, or at the least developed new ones.

Looking back what I was most annoyed with was not that individual’s weight, but his attitude and the apparent unspoken suggestion that if I were smarter or knew what was really important in life, I’d forget all this workout stuff and go watch underage girls on the security camera with him.

Joggers still suck however, you’re not changing my mind on that one.

That is funny, humor is probably the only good way to deal with the situation without someone, probably me, getting their panties in a bunch. I’ve never been the snappy comeback guy, but I’ll take a look at the verbal judo.

I have been conditioning with the Prowler in my neighborhood for awhile now and my neighbors think I am crazy. Lets face it, Prowlers, sleds, etc…are way out of the norm for the majority of the population. If you are going to use one in view of the public you have to expect some weird looks and comments.

One of the first times I used it I severely underestimated the physical demand. I ended up staggering into my yard, flopped down in the grass totally wrecked, and eventually puked. One of my neighbors, who was watching me from his window, actually came out to check on me. Ever since then I have been labeled as a little fanatical when it comes to exercise and have been the focus of several conversations over beers at the neighborhood cook outs. I just roll with it and continue to be the crazy guy pushing the sled.

I get the same looks in my neighborhood, this is a picture of my prowler, yoke walk and farmers walk bars. I also have a 500 pound tire I flip down the driveway.

Yep…we are the “Klopeks” in the “Burbs”. You would have to have seen the movie to appreciate that. Anyway, if I had all that I think my neighbors would set up bleachers to watch the show.

Been awhile since I saw that movie. Neighborhood kids will stop and watch. But most of the time I do it at 5 in the morning, to damn hot in Texas to do it during the day right now.

I leave for work around that time and don’t get back until after 6pm so I am training right as everyones getting home and are out and about. Guess I could get up at earlier, but I like my sleep too much.

Took me awhile to adjust getting up at 4:15 to workout, but I just dont have the lifestyle to do it in the evenings. When I do the strongman stuff on Saturdays though I do get the looks.

Working out in the morning would be more conducive to my lifestyle as well. However, working 11 years of nights, the evening was my morning and working out in the evening became a habit that was too hard to break. I did try to switch over when I went to days but I found I could not get properly motivated.

I feel you, was working ER for 14 years nights and weekends. Would get up in the afternoon and workout before work. When I got done with school and was working family practice I gained about 25 pounds and stopped working out. It took me a couple of years and then I got back into. Been consistent since then, but ONLY doing it in the morning. I am also lucky that my beautiful wife also gets up with me and works out. That helps a ton.

I agree having someone to workout with would improve motivation for those early morning workouts. My wife prefers to work out in the AM, but not nearly as early as what I would need her to get up if I switched over to AM workouts. She likes her sleep too. Consequently, we have never been able to get on the same page. To be honest I have kind of gotten accustomed to training alone. It is my way of unwinding when I get home from work.

In a few years when the last kid gets out of the house I could see the wife and I switching to the evening workouts. Right now cheerleading, guitar lessons etc keep our evenings full. I dont work out with the wife most of the time, I do all my stuff in the garage. Over the past few months I am trying to lose some belly fat, so I go do some CF workouts with her a couple days a week.

I hear you. Same issue. I have kids as well that are very involved in soccer and baseball. It seems like almost every evening there is something going on where we are chauffeuring at least one of them somewhere. This is the reason that my wife works out in the AM. And of course this can’t get in the way of my own training which always makes my wife happy.

^ Do you see a difference at work with the change in work out? Meaning when you were working nights you worked out prior to work and now its after. For me I always do better at work when I work out before work. I am less stressed and I have better mental clarity.

I can’t really say one way or another if working out before or after work made a difference or not. How I felt was more related to how much sleep I got. When I was working nights my sleep patterns were sporadic and I would often go without sleep following my last work day, going into an off day. I would do this so I could sleep at night with my wife on my off days in order to have some normalcy to our lives. Along with that my workouts were sporadic as well. If I went without sleep I would not feel like working out. Either way, I felt like shit a lot of the time when I was working nights.

I have been working days now for about 7 years. I can say that I feel much better now, both mentally and physically, because I can keep myself on a regular schedule both sleep wise and training wise. On occasion I will work an overtime shift at night. I don’t feel like myself for a couple days after the fact.
