Preparing for Next Lifting Season

Ive decided after I finish the program im on, im gonna take a good month off and not go to the gym at all. My only exercise will be my daily activity, and some stretching and mobility work. I want to do this, to get a good recovery in before I start training hard again.

Also, I want to revamp the way ive been training. Im gonna periodize my plan based on imaginery events, since im not competing, but I think this will help me reach new levels of both strength, fitness, and body comp.

It will likely be a 3-4 month season with small deloads in the middle, and a 1-2 week complete recovery at the end.

Also, I want to go about training very differently. Im currently thinking i’ll alternate between intensification and accumulation phases, with some maintenance phases thrown in here and there.

I think the “maintenance” phases are going to be the key to success in this method. I have found that I can get exceptional gains in all areas by doing very short periods of very focused training. Whether it be a 2 week cutting phase, or trying to reach a new PR in deadlifts with 6 sessions building toward my goal. Then after this focused hard training, a “maintenance” phase will allow me to recover, maintain most of my gains, and then progress further. This will be hard for me, because I generally train very hard, but it will be crucial for success.

My maintenance phases will likely all be very similar. They wont be anything fancy, and instead will focus on covering all my bases and maintaining everything ive gained. Basic programs like 5x5 8x3 and 3x10 will be used during these maintenance phases, and will likely only include a small handful of compound movements.

As for the specific intensification and accumulation phases, i have not decided on anything. I want to experement with a lot of what is out there as these are going to be short phases of 1-3 weeks. The programs im interested thus far are from:

Poliquin
Waterbury
Thibaudeau
Cosgrove
And many others…

I recently purchased “german body comp training” and am looking forward to that one as well as “the super-accumulation program”

I’ll also probably buy Waterbury’s book.

Are there any other recomendations of different programs to try, or just basic recomendations on how I should go about training.

***As for nutrition, Ive got Precision nutrition, and might pick up “the cheat to lose diet”. And if I do any cutting during this “season” it will be short duration so I might try the Velocity diet.

The main thing is I want to have fun, and progress to much higher levels of strength, fitness, and body comp.

Sounds like a recipe for failure via overcomplication.

anyone else have any recomendations?

Im thinking of getting Jimmy Smith’s program as well when it comes out.
