Pre-Workout Supplements

what exactly are the effects of pre-workout supplements?

do they increase strength/performance initially and then as your body gets “used to it”, provide diminishing returns? or do they truly make each workout better, more productive and efficient? do you have to cycle them so that your body doesn’t get too “used to them”?

also, provided that the trainee is lifting seriously and has a decent diet, do you think that certain people should avoid them? ie teenage lifters, old people, etc.?

thanks

It depends on what supplement you’re talking about.

Way too general of a question since pre-workout supps are so varied.

ok just a general PreWO supplement like Spike, Jack3d, NO-Xplode, Superpump250, etc.

Of those, I’d go with Spike. The others are just overpriced caffeine with arginine.

Those are not all similar products.

Why don’t you tell us exactly what you want?

The pre-workout supps I’m currently using are Alpha-GPC, Surge Workout Fuel, and FINiBAR.

Defining your goal is needed to see what to use. Engery levels down, need cals in the diet? Once this goal is known it will make it easy to get you a good product. (Biotest products? much needed)

I"LL give you my favorite pre work supplements!
I dont like PRE WORKOUT carbs as my drive and intensity are relaxed.

10 to 20 g of bcaas, )(powder_
10 g glutamine
10 g creatine.
.
if im low on food for the day get an isopure drink and mix it all in that.

take half of Spike liquid can!

!!

guaranteed spared glycogen.
high intensity.
and virtually un fatiguable muscles!!!

SOmetimes i find liquid l carnitine extends the stack!!

I have used jack3d twice on the reccommendation of someone pretty experienced. Both times i have set pr’s (at least recent pr’s goinf back a few years) on weights used and reps. I have used spike and/or pre workout fuel before and have set many pr’s on those products. But i must say, i have been very impressed with jack3d even with just one scoop. i am pretty sure its more than just caffine.

Pre-workout supplements (IMO) can get in your head, so to speak, sometimes. That being said, I’ve been taking Jack3d for awhile now and have had great results, I go in the gym a lot more motivated to train, had sustained energy throughout my workouts (with some intense pumps). You do need to cycle on and off of these products (read the labels on everything), and every product can and/or will affect everyone in a different way. The key thing to remember is that these are SUPPLEMENTS not magic pills to make you bigger and stronger; first must focus on a clean diet and solid workout routine before getting into the supplement field.

If you consistently train at a higher intensity without burning yourself out, you will progress faster. Some supplement help this.

HELP: green tea, Alpha-GPC, SURGE WOF, ANACONDA, Rhodiola Rosea, maca, protein
HURT: methamphetamine, cocaine, coffee, black tea, caffeine supps can be bad

the ones listed under HELP aid training
the ones listed under HURT would seem like they are helping, but actually burn you out beyond capacity to recover, I haven’t tried coke before a workout or meth ever, but that’s the word on the street

IMO jack is a great pre-wo drink. Easy to digest, unlike no-explode. puts me in good mental state to get serious about workout.

It really depends on the pre-workout supplement you are taking. For example, something like Jack3d can make you more focused and stronger due to the caffeine that it contains. All in all, your body will most likely get used to the effects of the caffeine and at ~$30-40(depending) it could be seen as over priced. I personally enjoy them though.

Beta Alnine… love the tingles and muscles don’t seem to fatigue… you just get to a point where you can’t lift, push or pull anymore…

Pre workouts help get you in the “mood” sometimes too… work, kids, wife, money stress, all that crap… sometimes taking a pre workout helps focus on the training … even if it is just a placebo effect.

what the fuck?

anything with 1,3D, beta alanine and caffeine gives me one hell of a workout

When I’m broke, I keep it simple with coffee + BCAA pre-workout. During times of plenty, I’m a fan of Spike, but by far the best pre-workout supp I’ve tried is 1MR… Literally guarantees a great workout. I feel super focused and aggressive, just can’t wait to crush weight. Good look regaining ur appetite for the next three hours, though.

I’m considering trying some 1MR but I have a question about 1MR…on the package it says “not to consume any food or protein 1 hr after taking”…any reason why? What would happen? My workouts usually run 1 1/2 so I guess it’s not an issue. Just wish they stated why…anyone know the answer?

I’ve been wanting to try 1MR…But I have a question. Onthe package it says not to consume any food or protein drinks 1 hr after taking. Anyone know why this is? What would happen?
