what exactly are the effects of pre-workout supplements?
do they increase strength/performance initially and then as your body gets “used to it”, provide diminishing returns? or do they truly make each workout better, more productive and efficient? do you have to cycle them so that your body doesn’t get too “used to them”?
also, provided that the trainee is lifting seriously and has a decent diet, do you think that certain people should avoid them? ie teenage lifters, old people, etc.?

If you go to pubmed, you can search each ingredient to help you avoid anecdotal placebo. There is a reason why ANACONDA avoids stims and the whole kitchen sink approach that most peri-workout drinks market.
Jack3d doesn’t just have caffeine. It has 1 3 dimethylamylamine which is what gives it that extra punch. It is my favorite pre-workout sup. Biotest should start including it in their pre-workout sups.
Caffeine pills (I use Java Stim by Poliquin)
Brain nootropics (I’m liking Fast Brain 2.0, it has Huperzine A and Vinpocetine in it)
Alpha-GPC
Receptormax (because it has Na-R-ALA and ALCAR)
Power Drive for some DMAE action every once in awhile.
But the first four, I take before every training session. When I’m out of Fast Brain I’ll probably switch to some other pure ‘brain booster’ supplements because of bushidobadboy’s advice.

I’ve read some accounts of people reporting terrible sleep quality and worse, lackluster erections with moderate amounts of use.

lack of sleep is usually due to taking too close to bed time.
i took 3 scoops(maximum recommended amount) of jacked before some ME workouts and never experienced the bad erections. i think the sex drive thing is something you only hear about bc people usually dont tack on “on and my dick was fine that night”
