Pre Westside For Bodybuilders

Hey guys,

Next week I’ll be starting Joel Marion’s Westside for Bodybuilders Bench Press Program. But before I get started I need to ask a few questions concerning the program.

First: On Max Effort (ME) Bench day the program has an example of a max effort bench press. Once the example gets to 320lb the example’s personal record, the example continues and goes up to 325lb and has miss. Does this mean once you have beaten your own personal record, after resting you try to beat your new record? And so on until you fail?

Second: How do you set up mini bands for DE bench press?

Thanks for any help.

The whole idea of max effort day is straining against the weight.

So if you hit 320 and it’s a grinder but you think 325’s there, then go for it. If 320’s a 4 second grinder then don’t try and go up.

If you’re doing singles then drop back to about 90% and do 3 more singles.

The mid point goes under the rack. One end of the band goes on right beside the sleeve. And the other end is pulled up from the other side and pulled across to where the first loop is.

You might want to have someone hold the bar when you do this cos there’s enought tension to flip it off.
