I have just hit 315 on the front squat which is by no means impressive but it’s a big PR for me, I have a long way to go…
The funny thing is that I haven’t front squatted in a long time and the last time I maxed out (6 months ago maybe) I couldnt even get 275
Anyway I noticed that when I dont do a specific lift for a long time I tend to get better at it and hit PRs, while if I focus too much on something I dont progress as well
Anybody else feels the same way? is there a logical explanation?
logical explanation:
maybe when you work the lift you overtrain or undertrain? you get better at the lift because maybe your legs got stronger cuz of another exercise? back squat? leg press?
its like for me not incline BB benching but i get stronger because my chest/tricep/shoulders get stronger because of flat bb bench and other exercises that work those muscles…
That’s what conjugated periodization is all about. max on an exercise and then cycle through a bunch of exercises that work the same muscle groups but w/ different recruitment patterns so when you come back to it you’re stronger in the original lift.
You’ve probably strengthened your whole torso so your abs and erectors can handle the load, and you’ve probably gotten a stronger set of legs over time too.
Another note, your CNS is fresh in terms of this exercise since there was a long lay off, remember guys like Poliquin say that after 6 times doing the same routine you’ve gotten all you can, time to move on and come back.
Keep up the good work! 315 front squat is very impressive, I’ll take a 40+ PR any day of the week…stay strong and God Bless.
