What was your mistake on your first bench attempt?
I have my first meet on the Nov. 14th. It’s an unsanctioned push/pull meet in PA. I’m thinking of of dropping 4lbs to compete at 198. I have a week to do it. I know you guys are saying just compete but I figure 4lbs is like taking a large poo. i should be able to manage that for the meet.
I tested my openers today, I decided 205 for bench(felt light and paused for a few seconds at the bottom.) Deadlift opener I’m thinking 385, also felt light forgot to hold it at the top though. I feel like I’m just gonna forget to pause everything on meet day and bomb. haha.
Are there any rules against rolling the bar for deadlift a little before you lift. I usually do it just a tiny bit to get in the perfect position when setting myself.[/quote]
Depending on your body type, 4lbs is easily lost by cutting off food and water around 10pm until the weigh-in at 8/9 am. I usually weigh anywhere from 272 to 282 in the mornings, but I can come in around 265-269 when I cut food and water the night before. Just make sure you drink a TON of water after the weigh-in. And there are no rules against rolling the bar. But, you want to practice not rolling on occasion. I have lifted in meets with fairly soft flooring so the roll was hard as heck.

Congratulations. Will you be competing raw or equipped?
Figured I would post my results in here as well. I competed yesterday at the APA First State Power Frenzy in the raw 220 open class.
I went 9/9, going 500/370/545, all of which were PRs. Sorry no video as my camera had no juice.

I’ll be competing in my 5 th event, GPC nationals in the spring, most likely late may. I lift in the 275’s, comming in around 260 - 265 in past events.
Best meet results to date
Squat - 600, double ply Inzer T-rex, missed 650, was a hair high.
Bench - 450, loose sinlge ply rage X, i can’t get a touch in a double ply shirt, i have an apex, bash, phenome & katana and can’t touch any of them witha weight i can lock out.
Deadlift - 650, inzer t-rex
For comming nationals i’m hoping to go 725, 530, 700, should be very doable, feeling like i’ve just came through a solid plateu and breaking fresh ground again.

I mean no offense when I say this, but the problem with your 2-ply shirted bench is most likely your form. I attended a bench seminar with Rob Luyando and Paul Key at it and they had all of us touch with extremly lift weight in our shirts. I have a Rage-X and I touched with 315, a friend touched 405 in a 3-ply overkill shirt, and there were countless others that touched in there 2-ply shirts with 315 or 365.

Bench- 605
Deadlift- 600
I know, my deadlift sucks

Novaeer, again, great lifting.
Crash, good luck in the 21st. I will be competing on the same day in an SPF meet in Arkansas. I wouldn’t call your dead weak, just a chink in the armor.
Doing my first Full Power Meet in 27 days at CPO Ontario Provincials. Have one Bench-Only Meet under my belt so far and looking forward to doing the full thing. So far I’m looking to open at 245kgs on the bench (15kg pr Opener, but the first meet I did was after only 3 months in gear, so I’ve had plenty of time to learn it) and 195-200kgs in the deadlift (yes i know my deadlift sucks :P) squat… I havent decided an opener yet, but i’m looking low-mid 6’s just to get something easy in, then shoot for mid 7’s with the straps tightened up a quite a bit.
Here are my meet results from last Saturday (Nov. 7th) at the Ontario Intermediate Championships (CPU/IPF affiliate). This was my first fully equipted meet, I had squatted in a suit in the last competition but that was it.
75kgs/165lbs weight class
Squat
172.5kgs/380lbs - good
182.5kgs/402lbs - good (22lbs PR)
210kgs/463lbs - miss
Bench
107.5kgs/237lbs - good
122.5kgs/270lbs - good (28lbs PR)
137.5kgs/303lbs - miss
Deadlift
175kgs/386lbs - good
195kgs/430lbs - good
205kgs/452lbs - good (39lbs PR)
Total 510kgs/1,124lbs (93lbs PR)
Here’s a video of the 2nd squat (182.5kgs) and the 3rd deadlift (205kgs)
Overall I was happy with how things went. My original plans were loftier than the results, even the attempts for that matter, but after coming down with a cold just under 2 months out, a sinus infection/head cold/chest cold 4 weeks out and then a flu 6 days out, I was just happy to hit some PRs.
It was a small competition (total ~16 lifter?) and only about 6-7 in my flight. That meant there was no more than five minutes between attempts. Due to the flu, even though I was “recovered” my wind still hadn’t returned so I was sucking wind pretty good by the time deadlifts came around. I’m pretty sure my last deadlift was less than 3 hours after my first squat.
The weigh-in was exciting as well. My weight was bouncing all over the place due to sweating at night from the flu, consuming lot’s of fluid and trying to eat to maintain/recover. I stepped on the scale about 15 minutes prior to the weigh-in and I was 75.2kgs. I went to the store, bought some gum and went back to the washroom and sat there chewing/spitting and trying to squeeze out anything. Fortunately the thought of missing weight literally scared the crap out of me… well a small nugget anyway… haha… I went back to weigh-in … 75.0kgs!!! So I made weight, bad news was that I lost a half hour to rehydrate.
As for the lifts, I was happy with the squats. The good news is my squat is officially over 400lbs now, the bad news is I’m still behind PMPM. ![]()
Bench, huh… I had high expectations 2 months out. The first time in the shirt I hit 315lbs (touch n’ go). Unfortunately the illnesses seemed really hit my bench. I actually missed 255lbs (off the chest in the shirt) 4 weeks out after hitting 365lbs for 5 reps the week earlier. Good news is that it should make for a big PR next time!!!
Deadlift. When I saw the videos I could tell I was wiped at that point. My knees caving-in is generally a sign that I’m drained and I’m loosing tightness. The 205kgs was actually less than I planned for a third attempt, but it ended up being the right call since it was a grinder.
All in all it was a fun competition. Thanks to Ouro for making the 3 hour trip to help me out, I owe you.

Way to go! That’s a helluva jump for your third squat, and remember, my 407 was at 82.5. Nicely done!

I saw you were online. Was hoping you’d see that.
I actually didn’t know what the 3rd attempt was until we got back to the warm-up area after. I could tell Frank was trying to talk over the MC so I didn’t look at the board. It didn’t feel to bad, but I didn’t start out upright enough and so I lost the pop at the bottom and folded. Next time.
Good job Rugger! See ya in April at the Nationals.
Just got back from my first meet.(push/pull)meet.
opened on bench with 205, went for 225 on my second attempt but missed. not enough leg drive out of the bottom. Went for it again on my third attempt and got it. Got one red light for bringing it back a little soon.
opened with 385 on Deadlift. then did 415, then 435(20lbs. PR). Think I strained a muscle in my butt.
Going to the meet was tons of fun. Will definitely be going again next year, and will hopefully be able to put up some respectable numbers by then.
Thanks undesired08 for the advice on cutting weight. I went from 204 to 196lbs over night by cutting water and food after 10p.m.
I managed to win a sword since I was the only person in my weight class lifting RAW and doing both events. I’m so ready for the Zombie Apocalypse now.

Had a meet yesterday (nov 14). I got food poisoning earlier in the week so did not think I was even going to lift . I ended up competing feeling less than optimal and though I did not hit any of the numbers I was planing, the day was not a bust . Instead it was a much less than expected total due to the conditions.
Squat 700 , bench 360 , deadlift 630 , total 1690 ( usapl meet)
Here is a pic of the 700 squat

Damn, dude. A 700 squat in USAPL is pretty fuckin’ impressive. Good job!

Thanks man, it took a lot of hard work.
I competed in the UPA Il State Championships, I took 1st in the 220lb Open class
Squat 650
Bench 550
Deadlift 605
My squat just wasn’t there today, I only hit my opener. I also went a little conservative on my bench so I would still have a little bit left in the tank for my deadlifts. The turnout was a little smaller, but this was the first year for this meet, and I’ll be looking forward to see what the turnout will be next year.
