Pour Some Sugar on Me

Great on the deads, bench and zerchers. I am sure Rob Halford would approve.

Great work. And the way you gutted out that set of floor presses was just awesome! I don’t know where you found the reserves to keep that set going.

On a side note…the pigtails and glasses, while moving heavy weight, definitely works.

I’ll second that… with the addition of the d/l socks, lol!

Knee socks and pigtails add 20 lbs to every lift. It’s a fact. There’s a long physics explanation but I can’t remember it.

Nice lifting Julie, you’[ve got a pretty sweet set up there.

You know, seeing how full that peg board is maybe I should just hang onto the two suits I’ve borrowed. There doesn’t seem to be room for them there.

Set up is looking good. I’m hoping to get over next week to train with you two.

That would be great. Next week I’ll be training Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. We have a ton more space now that all the other crap is in the shed. I just have a bed to get rid of now.

I regret not taking the bike from the meet dumpster. We clearly have the room now.

x2 on the work and effort.

This is where having a partner to spot you is essential. Lifting alone is definitely holding me back. If my strength gives out and the bar gives way, I could be dead for 3 days before somebody found me :frowning:

My kids would find me the minute dinner was late on the table or they needed a couple of dollars.

It really does make all the difference in the world. I’ve told Frank many times that just having his voice in my ear quietly pushing and coaching when we train is invaluable to me.

Nice training, and nice set up you have. What kind of split are you using?

I’ve made a lot of changes to how I train. I had been doing a crap ton of volume. Ruggerlife told me I was the only one who had a drop in volume doing a sheiko template. After Provincials in January I put together my own plan dropping volume significantly because I was told it would push my numbers up quite a bit if I wasn’t trashing myself.

At the moment I train deads on Sundays heavy plus accessory stuff like zerchers and whatnot. Tuesdays I bench heavy (for me) and speed squat. Thursdays I squat heavy and speed bench. There’s accessory stuff in the bench and squat days but I’ve been doing my best to stick to that. So far it seems to have the most impact on deadlift but I haven’t been doing it long. This is only my second cycle and it’s a short one since my next meet is the first weekend in June.

Sweet set up you have there in your garage!! It’s true about the pigtails. (:

Wednesday April 28 - Bench night

Normally Tuesdays but yesterday was my younger daughter’s birthday and we did birthday stuff.

Bench
bar-10
75-3
90-3
100-3,3,3
110-2,2
120-2 (mini PR - first time I’ve doubled this)
110-6,6

Squat speed
115- with green bands wrapped around shit
8x3
I love working with bands. For some reason I’m faster with them at the same weight than without because it’s like I’m trying to beat the band out of the bottom

DB Bench
32- 10, 10, 10, 9, 7

superset with

Goodmornings
135-5x5

I was up early and at my daughter’s high school shortly after 7. Her school has probably the country’s largest high school power lifting team. Currently there are four girls that will be competing at the high school provincials at the end of May. I’ve gone a couple of weeks to help coach and hope I can get to the meet to help out. It’s a lot of fun and I think there need to be more women helping and coaching if we want more girls and women in the sport.

Unfortunately, my daughter isn’t into lifting and if I see her at the school, I have to pretend I don’t know her

Yup. That makes it open season to embarrass the hell out of them. Since I have 4 daughters, I’m very good at it!!! They are pretty good sports, though.

I know a lot of people that train squat/bench or dl/bench together. I should give it a try sometime. It always strikes me as so old school.

My older boy, who will be 21 later this year, would only act as though he knew me at the gym or if I took him to a punk rock show through his teen years. Now he calls me up an invites me places, wants to do stuff, and to get him back I act all awkward and uncomfortable. Pisses him off, it is great.

that is quite the gym

training is looking solid
and so are you- your looking a tiny bit beefier.

great work.

Mine aren’t too bad. The thing is that despite the fact that I’m 35-10, I still remember walking 20 feet behind my dad at the mall because he was wearing moccasins. Actually, I still don’t know what was up with that. However, I don’t wear moccasins to train but the fact of our existence can sometimes be embarrassing enough.

Are you calling me fat puppet boy? j/k. I am beefier and it was planned. The first time I went back to the Y to train with Franks club one of the guy was staring at me. The conversation went something like this, “Are you staring at my ass?” “Yes” he says, “It’s much bigger. That’s good”.

Generally people who have noticed have commented that I look much healthier. I was way too lean last summer. Since the weight gain most of my lifts have increased by more than the percentage of weight.

That is what counts. When I watched your videos before, I was afraid you were going to snap in half with the weight you were pulling.

I think I look much better. However, the truth is that I still fight the weight. After my most recent meet, my weight crept up to 134, due mainly to a bulk lunch at the Mandarin Buffet  It’s dropped down to 132 but I have constant worries of it creeping up due to overwhelming domestic happiness. You know, kind of like happy fat.
