Pour Some Sugar on Me

I can hear you biting it with a lovely Welsh accent  I appreciate your restraint. I love all aspects of the sport in all of its’ iterations and can appreciate the differences in all of them. None is better than another. They’re just different.

If anyone is thinking of stirring up a geared/raw debate, this isn’t the place for it which is why I appreciate FB’s restraint. I know his opinion from other threads and admire both his lifting and his ability to bite his tongue when appropriate. That’s one of the things I like about the over 35 forum; the real lack of drama and contention. We can go elsewhere for that.

Soldog, I know you weren’t starting anything. I was just going into a verbose and long winded explanation of how I’ve made gear work well for me. I get long winded because I love it and get too focused.

For the record. I wasnt trying to stir the pot on my statement.I was just adding my feelings on the subject,The whole debate things just bores the hell out of me.

I generally don’t like to get into debates or arguments. People hold their opinions for their own reasons and generally don’t change their minds. All it does is stir up bad feelings. This applies to an awful lot of things in life. I prefer to carry on in my own way and let others do the same as long as it doesn’t interfere with my thing.

True, true. And one of the reasons why I’m here.

Maybe it’s the apathy of middle age. Either that or we have so many things demanding our attention that the opportunity to stir up shit is limited and just sounds like more work than I’m will to put into it.

I must admit that the relocation from PW was motivated by that sort of thing. If I want drama and hyperbole, I have a 16 year old who is happy to oblige.

I am NOT a drama queen! stomps foot and slams the door

you are outstanding o!! always so impressive and inspiring :)…I’ll follow you and snap’s log anywhere…

Maybe not but you toy with us with food descriptions.

like the tasty spaghetti squash currently baking in a rosemary-flavoured bath the cavities of which I will later fill with fatty pan-fried ground lamb, fresh thyme, garlic, fresh tomatoes, and a splash of red…

happy halloween :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Saturday October 30

Today both BB and Ruggerlife competed in a local open meet and I coached them. I was a bit trepidatious about BB competing because he’d had a lot of shoulder issues recently and I wasn’t even sure he’d be able to walk anything out.

He proved me wrong. He went 7 for 9. He set a national M2 75kg bench record and beat his last best total by 12.5kg. It was a good day and I was very proud of him.

RL also had a successful meet but I think he finally decided that he needs to move up a weight class to really hit his potential.

In other news, I was very proud of one of our local lifters and t-n member Sensgirl. She lifted raw at 52kg and was 10kg short of an IPF masters total which is pretty freaking impressive.

I returned home to train…

Deadlift - raw
135-5
185-3
225-3
255-3x3
275-3
285-1

Deficit sumo deadlifts using 25 plates
145-5
165-5
185-5
205-5
225-3

JM presses
45-12
65-2x10

Weight sit ups with 10 lb db behind my head
3x20[/quote]
I didn’t know BB had set a record! Tell him congrats from me. Also, thanks for the kind words about Sensgirl.

Thanks for the mention Ouro. It really means a lot to me.

Congrats to BB for the record! I didn’t realize it until now; that’s extremely impressive especially condsidering the shoulder issues.

I never saw you squat because I was working too hard trying to get BB and RL warmed up and the warm up room was a bit of a shambles. I saw the link on FB and your depth went to the floor; nothing borderline there

I saw the results. If you haven’t looked, they’re posted on the CPU forum. I wish they’d note which lifters were geared and which were raw for future reference. I was looking at Steve M.'s total thinking it wasn’t that great considering his past performance and BB reminded me he was raw and beltless. I wish we’d stuck around especially since I saw some pictures of Dave H. and I wanted more OPA shirts.

Regardless, the day was great and there were a lot of really impressive new lifters. The ammount of support for everyone reminds me of how much I love competing.

Steve M.'s squats and benches were impressive! The little Bunny fellow and I managed to catch squats and benches (well he had to leave during benches).

Some of my other meet/post meet thoughts (I’m short on time tonight):

  • I think BB put a sedative in my drink to make sure he kicked my ass.

  • It’s always a pleasure to watch Sensgirl lift. Great job Saturday!

  • The hole in my kids Halloween stash ensures I’m moving up in weight.

  • BB had a great day… and thoroughly kicked my ass in every lift (I want a re-match at 82.5kgs next year…he’s free to weigh 75.1kgs).

  • I was happy I didn’t bomb and finally went over a 300lbs bench at 165lbs.

  • I’m looking to buy a deadlift if anyone is interested in selling one.

and last but certainly not least…

…thanks again for the help and the frequent running to the table to make my attempt changes!

You’re very welcome for the help. It’s always a pleasure. It was nice to be there when you hit your 300+ bench.

FYI, I think Marlene hates me for the constant attempt changes. I think both she and Glyn hate BB and I when we shared our pre-meet prep that worked quite well.

BB didn’t put a sedative in your coffee. He might have taken a piss in it to make weight but that is all

I wonder if Bunny managed to talk his wife into the knee socks/school girl thing. It always works a treat.

I wish we could have stayed for the rest but BB had to work and I was flat out exhausted. Who knew coaching could be so tiring ?

I think moving up to 82.5 will make a world of difference to you. Look what happened when I went up to 60. You can only fight it for so long.

You should let me get in on this one too… that way you’ll at least come second!

Monday November 1

I started my new job today and spent most of the time getting my new office set up and getting accustomed to the new laptop and Windows 7. Who knew it would be tough as crap to find stuff in regular programs in Windows 7? The nice thing is that I have a corner office with two walls of floor to ceiling windows. The bad news is I opened the blinds and dropped a weight class by the afternoon with the heat. Tomorrow I’m keeping the blinds shut. It’s always a bit disconcerting going into a new environment after you’ve spent years knowing exactly what you’re doing and who you can do it to. The owner of the company is very big on a paperless environment which I love the idea of but will take some mental retraining to get there.

Anyway…

Bench - raw
45-10
65-5
95-3
105-1
112.5-3x3
122.5-2x1 These were supposed to be doubles
132.5-0 big fail
115-2,3
95-12
I’m not totally surprised by the fail. I knew I was nearing my bench max and would have to reset soon. I just wasn’t sure if it would be this week or the next raw training day. In a couple of weeks, I’m dropping down to ramp up again and see if I can blow through 132.5.

Paused partials off chest - focus on leg drive. We’re hoping if I can improve speed off the chest, I can drive through my sticking point in a shirt
95-3x3

Box squats below parallel
45-5
135-5
185-2x3
205-1

Front squats
135-3x3

DB Bench
25-5x15

Good mornings-close stance/straight(ish) legs
135-5x5

corner window - very nice Madame O. too bad you can’t enjoy the view all day. Maybe opening the blinds a little in the morn can be a compromise?

Two walls of floor-to-ceiling windows? I’d spend all day wanting to be outside! Sounds like a beautiful office. The first few months at any job is always a bit painful, trying to navigate the job, people, etc.

Bench. Grrr.

It is a bit of a disconnect in the new job. When I’m settled in and actually know what I’m doing it’ll be good. There aren’t a ton of us in the office and it’s all women except for the owner. I worked with one of the ladies for several years at my old job. So far, the people are great. I like to be a star and over deliver on everything that’s requested of me so being uncertain is tough.

Bench wasn’t great but it wasn’t a huge disappointment either. There’s a lot going on and I didn’t completely shit the bed.

We were talking about my max attempt last night and BB suggested that next time I go for a max, I don’t do all the heavy volume first. I agree with him but last night’s training wasn’t really to get a new max. It was just the next weight in the raw cycle and I hit the wall.
