Beautiful box squats. Curious why you never do them.
Where’s your normal bench grip? Must be pretty wide.

I never really did them because I didn’t think about them. They were a lot of fun though and I think I’ll throw them in from time to time. I may make the box a bit higher though. It’s a little bit on the low side.
My normal bench grip is index fingers on rings. I have long arms and that works best for me in a shirt but Frank recommended moving in for raw to spare my shoulders a bit and it worked well.

Nice work on the squats. Great depth. I agree with the legs comment, you should probably try out for a ZZ Top video. [/quote]
Thanks. The other day when I was looking at videos on Youtube, I came across yours. I was impressed with one of the zercher ones that you started super low. I think it was 405.

We started school early this year. Some kids went back Aug 26 and all communities started before labor day. I always sing ‘school days, school days dear old golden rule days…’ to my boys the first day of school. They hate that song.
Squat
Today’s focus was on keeping my back super tight and really arching my lower back. I never focused on that before or really thought about it but after reading a thread on PL, I checked a link on EliteFTS. I never realised that typically, when I start a squat, I lock out at the start with a pelvic tilt and I think that causes my upper back to round and pushes me forward when I descend. I linked a video of my 4 singles at 305. A problem I have when I arch my back is that the bar moves so I’ll have to chalk my back. It feels awkward but I think it helps on depth. Next week I’ll keep at it raw.

nice lookin’ squats! I could see the difference in the third one bu only because you called it out. Do you really feel a lot of difference?
On another note, have you ever experimented with your grip width? You grip is really close to your shoulders. I only ask because I’ve tried a number of different widths and cannot tolerate that close of a grip, although closer in does seem to help in keeping the elbows under the bar and not chicken winging.
We have the same body type. I’m 5’ 8", but when seated, I’m usually the same “height” as people (usually females) who are 4 to 6 inches shorter than I am.
Fyi, the short torso is fully protectable with the long(ish) arms during sparring and similar activities; plus the long(ish) legs are good for warding off adversaries. In case you were interested, lol.
I slept like crap last night waking up multiple times with my heart pounding out of my chest. My weight in the past week has stayed around 132.5lbs which is a bit lower than normal for training.

I was pretty stoked. I think the pigtails added at least 5lbs. My goal for Provincials in January was to pull 170kgs. That pull was about 169.5kg so maybe it will be my second.
So the secret’s out. I always wear pigtails at my meets because it ups my numbers. Let’s keep that info in a tight circle though, okay? You totally rock that look!
You grip for squats exactly like I do. Close in. I feel more in control like that. Have you played with your grip?
And I see the return of the sex-ay pink suit. I still want one.
Seriously, O. I just can’t get over how strong you are. That squat bar is bending! What kind of morning juice do you drink?

I just wish that the pig tails didn’t make me look like some middle aged, in bred Ellie May Clampett. When I watch the video, I realise I need to fix my hair colour. It’s too yellow looking right now.
Regarding the squat grip, I’ve always held it close in like that. I’m too narrow in the back and shoulders to feel comfortable going wider. I’ve tried it a couple of times but I really don’t like it. Unfortunately, taking such a tight grip bothers my shoulders from time to time, particularly when I squat heavy for an extended period. It can also extend to pain in my hands. Life’s tough, buy a helmet I guess
The pink suit is now just for deadlifting. It’s great for that but not so good for squatting.
