I find it fascinating how obesity is a disease of being overfed AND undernourished. We “eat” so much not-food that we have no room for any sort of actual nutrition, and yet we’re still ALWAYS hungry BECAUSE every time our body signals hunger, we don’t actually give it nutrition. We fill the space of the guts and don’t actually answer the call for hunger, which just perpetuates the cycle.
And to that point: 2-3lbs of ground beef will definitely move the needle in the other direction, just as you’re saying. Think of what you’re NOT eating if that’s all you eat, and think of how you’ll at least get SOME form of B-vitamins, Iron, etc.
In fact, for a short term “emergency” situation, I bet a three pounds of ground beef diet along with Superfood, Flameout, and maybe a little psyllium husk fiber would work great. I bet ChatGPT could write that diet in about 4 seconds.
Sorry to derail your thread, @Dumdawg2020! For real, keep us posted.
Not to derail the thread but if you only ate 3lbs of 90% lean ground beef a day and nothing else you are a specimen. There are definitely you folks out there on this forum and I am amazed by your discipline.
Problem is most of us humans would eat the 3lbs of ground beef no problem thinking we are doing a good thing and then also throw in a snack bag of Doritos, 1 or 2 jolly ranchers, glass of orange juice, and a bagel. That’s an entirely different story, and instead you may be better off with a balanced diet and maintain a calorie deficit as Chris explained above.
I do 2 pounds of very fatty beef… over 200 grams of fat day and @ 180 grams of protein. 47 with visible abs. In the absence of carbs I think “high” fat is just fine.
My training didn’t suffer at all with no carbs. I use A LOT of sodium. Once you’re fully fat adapted you can still train quite intensely. And my gains might be a bit slower… they’re much cleaner and more discernable. At 47 they come sloooowly either way.
You know something we don’t hear nearly enough? Be disciplined and suck it up. Dieting blows… but people typically say, “pick the diet you’ll stick to” as opposed to saying, “it sucks but it’s how badly do you want it?”
Animals in the wild are often struggling to survive and don’t have the luxury of eating a “balanced” diet, but they do have a varied diet. This is seen across different species and groups.
When in captivity or when they have access to food they do suffer from similar diseases. It is not because of those mean carbs but, from overeating.
Don’t know if you read/listen to much of the works of Robert Sikes, but he goes into pretty great detail on the biological mechanisms at play with fat adapted athletes and hard training. He’s been in a ketogenic state for 6+ years and competed as a professional natural bodybuilder. I’m reading through his book currently. Fascinating stuff.
I’ll be honest I struggle to eat the ground beef everyday, especially that much. I am still doing it alot though. I have lost a little and my training is going good.
Animals are not striving for balance… they eat what’s available at times. Much like our ancestors did. Yet you don’t see the diseases humans suffer from in the wild. Dogs don’t get hip displacement in the wild. Their shitty human made food does that… largely the crap grains. Read for comprehension.
To see the results? I don’t do absolutes as I’ve seen enough to question most accepted dogma. If I use carbs it’s peri-training and roughly 30 grams pre and post…a Cyclic Dextrin and some simple carbs post. *If… and I still MMA spar for 45 minutes to an hour straight…no breaks… on no carbs.
