Eh - it just goes to show that things never change. The same arguments from 4 years ago are more or less the same arguments today…
I didn’t realize that this thread was nearly four years old initially, but what an interesting discussion. You still see articles pop up now and then with some vague figures on how 80% of the population have an undiagnosed something-or-other (pick and choose from herniated discs, ligament tears, vague mechanical dysfunction, etc.) - which amounts to little more than fear mongering.
It’s always good to read Dan John - go forth and lift heavy (preferably from the ground to over your head). He describes how great weightlifting was back in school, in a garage, with some buddies - that they never fathomed you could get hurt having fun. Where did that spirit go? (Then again, he also says (somewhat tongue-in-cheek, I suppose) if you can’t crank out 40 push-ups, you have no business lifting weights - something today’s largely sedentary populations might do well to heed.)
